The way you pay will change again thanks to MPOC

You might have heard of the term "Mobile Payments on COTS (MPoC)" recently, and you might be wondering what it is and how it affects you. The good news is that as a consumer or a merchant, you don't really have to think about it much. But it's significant because it represents a shift in the form factor for card payments, much like how card swipe machines with paper were replaced by the current point of sale card machines.

#MPoC is a new security standard developed by the PCI Security Standards Council that provides increased flexibility for mobile payment acceptance solutions while maintaining a high level of security. This means that merchants can accept payments through various mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, while still ensuring that customers' payment information is kept safe and secure.

As a consumer or a merchant, you will see more Tap on Phone solutions in the market in 2023 as #softPOS mobile solutions become more widely adopted. This means that you'll be able to use almost any hardware with #NFC and a secure operating system to accept card payments, including IOS and even Windows machines.

In summary, MPoC represents a shift in the form factor for card payments that will allow for more flexibility in how payments are accepted, while still maintaining a high level of security. As a consumer or a merchant, you don't have to worry about it directly, but you can expect to see more MPoC solutions in the market in the coming years as #softPOS solutions become more widely adopted.

The same PCI Security Standards Council that created the safety and security of protecting consumers and merchants through existing point of sale card machines is now creating a step change with MPoC, and it represents the next evolution in how we accept and process payments securely.

Halo Dot customers that use our SDK or App will be transitioned to MPOC from the current Card Scheme Pilots in 2023 and 2024, but the window is still open for part of this year to activate Merchants under a pilot.
