No way to tell the exact right and wrong

The workplace or the Work from Home has exciting challenges. It's interesting to work in a place whose aim is to solve issues for customers yet struggle with basic ones while building the organisation. I recently got an email from a prospective employee not joining today for a better offer. In everyday situations, that's understandable; what makes this situation unique is that this was one hour before a big meeting where he was supposed to be introduced, and this particular individual had accepted to represent. What struck me was why it felt so wrong. If it is not illegal and maybe in this person's best interests, why does it seem morally wrong

The startup world is a new phenomenon in our country, with it still developing the codes and conducts of it lie in a haphazard form. These situations are hard to decode because there is no material harm logically, so let's think of it as opportunity cost. Offices strive to have an igniting culture, be it a family or a second home. When you accept someone into your company, especially in the starting stages, think of it as inviting someone into your close circle. You trust them, believe in them and look forward to growing your company together. When someone so unceremoniously cuts off from you, it is bound to feel like a loss. Is the pros and cons of the startup world? Everyone you meet and hire, you get to form a close bond with, something larger companies aspires to inculcate. The opportunity cost of that man bowing out last minute is the loss of good relations, a chance to grow and perhaps respect and dignity.

There is no way to tell the exact right and wrong, but to anyone who has been in a similar position and chose to call out early for "non-interested", I have respect for them.

Unarguably it is disturbing for people who value human relationships more than business relationships. However, this trend is widespread even in established organizations, where people leave within/before a week of joining and organizations send emails a week before joining...happily retracting their respective positions.....That alas is the harsh reality of neo liberalism.....!

In last few years I have witnessed this a growing trend, even in pre-covid times. Multiple justifications (both parties pov) but there is no right or wrong. While this is painful, one way to look at it is - it is best to happen now than within short duration after joining.
