ON THE WAY TO PURPOSE…

Exactly three months ago, I embarked on a journey, out of my comfort zone, thinking to myself, that this was going to be a short trip.

Unbeknownst to me, the trip turned out to be a journey of many twists, turns, intrigues, drama, and adventure, with a good dose of uncertainty, anxiety, and emotional stress. Before I knew it, I was frozen in time, away from the world as I knew it, and into the one I was immersed into temporarily. For the better part of this time, I couldn’t create content, or curate stories, as my creative juice was nowhere in sight. As much as I tried, I couldn’t squeeze drops of my creative juice, to fill a teaspoon!

Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t a case of an unplanned schedule or stories, but rather, a deep sense of feeling that what was preplanned wouldn’t be addressing purpose. But what was it that would address purpose for my audience? I couldn’t find the answers, and deep within my belly was a struggle.

So, day after day, week after week, month after month, I struggled in this frozen-time-space, to stitch words that would be authentic, purpose-driven, passionate, and inspiring, for my audience. I realized that it wasn’t just about filling the space with mere words for the sakes of ‘posting’, because I have come to understand that the storytelling events I curate and content I create, change lives, create impact, inspire, and make a difference, however minute.

So, I had no choice, but to release myself to what it is that was trying to lay hold of me. Instinctively, I knew that I was on a journey of some sort, and that, it was birthing something different from what had already been preplanned!

How in the world do you prepare for your plans changing without warning and when you least expect?

Though I couldn’t place my finger on what was going on, I knew that I needed a good dose of patience to wait through this period, and that the purpose would unfold in its time.

It did, and I'd like to share my experience, as well as a new series of stories, from this journey - “Along The Way To Purpose”, in the coming weeks:

1.    Be prepared to have your plans altered, interrupted, upturned, and in most cases, unannounced. This sounds crazy right, but true – to be prepared for the unplanned that’s unannounced!

2.    Because they are unannounced, when it happens, go with the flow, take a deep breath. In fact, take several deep breaths.    

3.    Release yourself to whatever it is that’s trying to lay hold of you.

4.    Live a day at a time, and be present on each day, to take in what’s presenting itself to you within your in-the-moment environment.

5.    Trust your guts, and be aware of everything and anything around you

6.    Be curious and sensitive to something new, fresh, and unusual around you.

7.    Keep the faith, as it’s often easy to lose the faith to think all hell’s been unleashed at you. So cut yourself some slack, and be kind to yourself.

8.    Be patient with yourself, and release yourself to the unfolding new, even if it seems as if nothing is happening on the outside, around you, or others are moving along on their journey.

9.    Understand that if it’s going to be authentic, transformational, life-changing, impactful, and purpose-driven, it’s got to be birthed NATURALLY.

10. The mystery unlocks when you least expect. So, you can’t force it, you can’t fake it, and you can’t cook it.
