The Way To Change Everything You Thought Was Possible.

I’ve spent most of my life being negative and having a bad attitude.
This was my default way of operating and I didn’t know any better. At 26, I thought I’d be lucky to hold down a job and earn $50K per year.
I’d gone through a catastrophic event in my life called ‘walking away from a business I loved.’ I’m now 32 and believe anything is possible. I tell myself every day that I will become a famous writer and inspire a whole generation.
I genuinely believe I will achieve this goal even though the results sometimes would suggest that I might be telling myself lies.
What causes someone to change their thinking?
From my own experience, I’ve found it’s one major event that makes someone question everything.
That event might be you losing your job, breaking up with a romantic partner or even suffering a severe health challenge.
It’s easy to look at these events and feel sorry for yourself.
I experienced them all at once and it honestly felt like the end.
What changed my thinking was when I asked myself “What if this major event was the very thing you needed to change your thinking?”
It was the simple idea that maybe my lazy ass needed a shock to the system.
Looking back, if I hadn’t had all three of these events occur I would not have changed. I would have continued to think that my life was tough and I’d never amount to anything.
It’s not that you need answers.
The way I changed my thinking about what was possible was to become obsessed with my curiosity.
I didn’t have the knowledge or the mindset to change my thinking. Many of you reading this might be in a similar situation.
The one defining moment that changed it all was this: Being obsessed with exploring my curiosity.
I explored quitting my music career, I sold my car, I went to Meetups, I asked a girl out who I met randomly on the internet who was selling her iPad. I was so bored with life and I discovered the power of exploring my curiosity.
What if you could date anyone?
What if you could work any job you wanted?
What if you could work for yourself for the rest of your life?
I explored all these questions and kept discovering the same answer: Anything is possible.
I got to date women I thought were out of my league.
I got a senior job in finance without any degree.
I then got a job in digital marketing with minimal experience.
The consistent theme I kept revisiting in my mind was that if I just got out of my own way and believed anything was possible, then I’d achieve results that were far beyond the realm of my expectations.
A change in attitude.
Beyond the major adversities that hit me all at once, the commitment to explore my curiosity — and my newfound understanding that actually, anything is possible — changed my attitude.
My attitude changed in the following ways:
- No longer focusing on myself
- Being 51% positive and 49% negative
- Accepting that all the stuff going wrong was teaching me something valuable which could be beneficial later on
The last point was a game-changer. I realized that I was uneducated and lacking life experience.
“I chose to make a lot more mistakes because I desperately needed some form of education outside of my disappointing high school pass mark and highly technical sound engineering qualification.”
Summary of how to turn the impossible into possible.
- Use a current adversity you’re going through as a starting point
- Explore your curiosity. Go down that wild rabbit hole
- Get out of your own way. Anything is possible.
- Change your attitude
These are the four steps I took to change everything in my life that I thought was possible.
Think about what each of the steps means to you.
