WaveAccess Newsletter V.06 - including Outsourcing Guide Part 17: Methodology, tools, and timely resolving of operational issues.

Hello!

In our last entry we talked about getting started with your vendor after you had finally chosen the one. If actual in-person meetings are required and what value they could possibly bring to the table, as well as some tips on how valuable information, documentation and communication are in the beginning.

In this one, we’ll go through some critical points regarding methodology, tools and timely resolution of operational issues.

Agree on tools, methodology, and governance early.

Prior to project kick-off, there should be a consensus on operational details like what tools to use, what methodology to run the project with and what would be the structure of governance, i.e. the lines of communication between client and vendor, as well as project steering (if necessary according to the scale of the project).

Address operational issues immediately.

Any type of mistake, negative event or conflict in either the project management or within the team should be addressed immediately. Usually, the cause is a simple misunderstanding or wrong assumption related to areas of responsibility between the client and the vendor.

Consider having a regularly scheduled “process improvement” meeting with both the client and vendor attending. At least during the first few months of a new project this can work as a starting point for a non-project related discussion, but towards the overall collaboration and relationship between client and vendor.
