The wave of tech in real estate
This past week, I attended the NYCREPropTech event held by MIPIM PropTech in NYC. It was my first time and wanted to give my insight into the real estate industry. First, it’s such an exciting industry to be in, and nothing has me more excited than the disruption I’m seeing across the supply chain in both commercial and residential real estate. Secondly, there’s an intersection of the old world of real estate and new world of PropTech startups that is coming together, in new and exciting ways.
Some of the more interesting startups I saw: Measurabl, sustainability software for commercial real estate. In this day and age, commercial real estate builders and owners have a responsibility to ensure they’re setting and meeting sustainability goals, and Measurabl makes it easy to pull and analyze sustainability data. Kudos to Matt Ellis, great conversation, thanks for sharing.
Another interesting startup in the co-working/office space, Knotel, is doing it differently from WeWork, and have been growing rapidly. Edward Shenderovich shared his story with the audience, of having raised $160 million, and now they’re in the “Blitzscaling” stage as Reid Hoffman would put it, taking this space to the next level with their “agile office”. I personally love this space because it allows startups to not worry about looking for office space and can just set up shop in a ready to go environment.
Overall, the event was great for networking, learning about where startups are in their journey, and how the commercial and residential real estate is evolving. NYC’s PropTech vibe was strong, and was happy to see that there’s a great PropTech scene outside of Seattle, where some would say the PropTech industry started with Zillow and Redfin. The more the better!
Thanks to the MIPIM organization and MetaProp VC for putting on a great event!
