Wave News: New Wavers, New Features, and Insights for 2023
Hello and welcome to the January edition of Wave News, the very first of 2023. We hope you had a great Christmas and are now ready to get stuck into 2023 - we certainly are!
We started the year with a bang as we welcomed three new fantastic hires to Wave, each joining our Client Services team to further bolster our recruitment expertise. With nearly two decades of recruitment and recruitment tech experience, Richard Harris has come in as Operations Director, streamlining our processes, tech and people, as well as heading up Client Services. Dino Halugi? brings extensive project management skills to Wave as our new Digital Project Manager for RecWebs. Spearheading tech sales is Carlo Alboreto , who joins Wave as Sales Director equipped with an extensive background in recruitment tech. We’re thrilled to have them on board!
In addition to welcoming new Wavers to the team, we’re welcoming back our wonderful Client Success Manager, Polly Payne , who has just returned from maternity leave. She will be working primarily with our WaveTrackR clients, ensuring they are making the most of everything WaveTrackR has to offer and dealing with any issues or queries.
??? An AI Assistant that jump-starts your job advert writing
As well as new people, we have launched a range of new WaveTrackR features that we are super excited about. In December we announced WaveTrackR’s AI Job Advert Assistant - an industry-first and something we think will be a huge asset to busy recruiters.
It will help consultants to kickstart their job ads, giving them a quick template which they can add to and edit as they wish. You can write an advert from the job information or from a job description, improve your existing job advert, or even write a job in the form of a poem (we love this option!).
?? Jobs and Applications fall as 2022 ends
As we move forwards into 2023, it’s prudent to first take a look at the state of the market as 2022 closed. The WaveTrackR December 2022 Recruitment Trends Report revealed that both jobs and applications experienced sharp drops. Whilst falls in activity might not be unusual for the end of the year, it may also be a reflection of the economic pressures and uncertainties being widely felt in the UK.
This, as well as other significant data brought up by the report, is discussed in the accompanying article - Jobs and applications fall as 2022 ends: WaveTrackR December 2022 Recruitment Trends Report.
??? Dave talks with Dee Dee Doke?
Just one week into the year we released our first Talent Matters podcast episode of 2023. Episode 212 features recruitment royalty DeeDee Doke , editor of Recruiter Magazine .

?Having been at the helm of Recruiter Magazine for nearly 18 years, Dee Dee is an authority on the industry and her decades of experience make her well-placed to comment on the evolution of the recruitment industry, how it will weather the recession, and what recruiters should be doing to come out the other side on top (hint: value-add is key!). We have plenty more Talent Matters episodes in the pipeline so watch this space!
?? The trends that will shape the recruitment industry in 2023
In my regular slot for UK Recruiter , I wrote about the trends that will shape the recruitment industry in 2023. It’s full of trend predictions and, importantly, what you can do to come out the other side of the recession intact and even better off.
?? What we are reading
What else are we reading in the world of recruitment blogs? In our monthly round-up of the best of the rest, you can read about data that suggests that just 8% of people in the UK will look for a new job in January, crucial recruiter tactics for 2023, ways to grow your recruitment agency on LinkedIn, why application abandonment is so prolific amongst Gen Z (and what you can do about it), and how recruiters can find opportunity in the turbulent waters of 2023.
?? Before you go…
There’s no escaping the conversation around AI helping people by writing copy in a variety of different mediums. We’d love to know what you think so if you have time to answer this one question we’d be incredibly grateful:
Would you use AI to help you with general recruitment marketing or job advert copy?
Let me know in the comments below ??
I hope you find this useful and that you have enjoyed the new Wave News format.
All the best,
Emily, Head of Content @ Wave
