Wave Energy Converters

Wave energy converters are known as WECs. They capture energy from waves on the surface of the water or from the pressure below. Wave motion or tidal motion is caused by wind. The amount of wind varies, depending on where the water is located geographically. Many times, WECs are tested in oceans. WEC energy potential is often measured in terawatt hours. For example, Alaska is estimated to have enough recoverable energy for 620 TWh/year. That may not mean much until you know that one TWh/year would supply just under a thousand US homes for a year.
