Portugal's solar sector achieved remarkable growth in 2024, installing 1.77 GW of new photovoltaic capacity—a 47% increase from 2023. While large solar plants led with 1.14 GW of installations, we're particularly excited about the surge in distributed generation, with self-consumption units adding 0.5 GW. This shift represents more than just numbers—it's part of a fundamental transformation from centralized to decentralized energy. As businesses and communities embrace local energy sharing, we're seeing the future of energy take shape: dynamic, democratic, and driven by the consumers themselves.?

What's ahead for 2025? While experts project continued strong growth, the sector faces real challenges: grid congestion during peak hours, complex licensing processes, and the need for better energy management. But here's the exciting part: Energy Communities are already solving these challenges through smart optimization and direct local consumption. By improving project economics, we're making solar adoption more viable and accelerating the energy transition.

As Europe steps up its renewable energy ambitions, these community-based solutions are proving to be a crucial piece of the puzzle.?With Portugal targeting 20.8 GW of solar capacity by 2030, the role of Energy Communities becomes even more vital. We've found the right partners for another unique project!

Together with SANJOTEC, we are creating a pioneer Energy Community in a Tech and Scientific Park in Portugal. This 260 kWp installation will deliver clean energy to over 40 families in S?o Jo?o da Madeira, translating into over less 80 CO2 emissions every year.
