Let’s dabble into some of the top industry news this week:

1.????? The UK’s largest water company plan to invest £400 million to future-proof London’s water supply – Thames Water is set to upgrade two water treatment works in London to ensure a continuous secure supply of high-quality drinking water for customers throughout the city.

2.????? ADB and UNICEF join to strengthen climate resilient water and sanitation in Pakistan – The partnership will join forces to support inclusive, resilient, and sustainable urban infrastructure and services in Rawalpindi and Bahawalpur through public awareness and campaigns to encourage better behaviour and practices related to water, sanitation and waste management. The collab will support the government’s efforts to improve water supply and waste management in two fast-growing cities.

3.????? Flood treatment in LA – Sponge city infrastructure proves highly effective by capturing 8.6 billion gallons of water after two extreme storms hit South California in just a few days. The water gathered was able to supply more than 100,00 households for a whole year!

Fresh senior roles in business:

1.????? Soren Kvorning is appointed new CEO of Kamstrup! After a career within green technology as CEO of Enabl which holds around 800 employees, Soren has been appointed to elevate Kamstrups next growth journey and has recently explained how Kamstrup is an exciting opportunity he couldn’t say no to, despite leaving ENABL earlier than anticipated.


2.????? Isle Utilities appoints new chairman. Ian McAulay is announced as chair of the water tech consultancy at Isle Utilities which will lead the charge in environmental transition. Ian McAulay stated he is “honoured to join Isle Utilities as Chairman at such a pivotal moment for water and technology innovation”.

3.????? Heritage Environmental Services reveals HP Nanda as new CEO. Previously, HP was Divisional CEO, Water Utility at GRUNDFOS , where he was a member of the Grundfos management team. Current CEO of HES Jeff Laborsky will transition to the Board of Directors of the company from 01/04/24. HES is at a pivotal growth moment in company history and HP brings “a unique blend of experience and innovative leadership style” which will support the business through their upcoming growth phase. HP said “I truly look forward joining the team at HES and admire their purposeful mission rooted in sustainability. I’m honoured to build upon the legacy of stewardship as we become an even stronger industrial partner and environmental advocate."


4.?????Aqualia announces Santiago Lafuente as new CEO. Santiago Lafuente takes over Felix Parra from 9th April. Lafuente is one of the great experts in the water management sector and has been heavily involved with responsibilities in Aqualia for more than 30 years. He has held the positions of Area Director, Director of the Central-North delegation, as well as being responsible for Wastewater Production and Treatment in Spain.

The Global Water Awards

The Global Water Awards continue to recognise current companies excelling within the entire international water industry. This week, shortlisted nominees for the Water Company of the Year include Gradiant , IDE Technologies, Metito and Suez.

Gradiant

The $200 million-a-year water technology supplier have positioned themselves in some of the fastest-growing market segments through a series of shrewd acquisitions and digital expansion initiatives. In doing so, the company has doubled its revenue in each of the last 3 years

IDE Technologies

A global project developer, innovator and operator of municipal and industrial desalination, water treatment and wastewater reuse plants, who successfully executed water treatment and wastewater reuse contracts for mining companies in Chile, India and Mexican energy giants. At the same time, the company focuses on minimising long term and present lifestyle costs and carbon footprints. Ultimately, IDE Technologies are being credited on their exceptional reputation of providing innovative desalination projects that consistently dominate against competitors. Their global knowledge has allowed them to capitalize on a unique vision for overcoming the US’s water challenges

Metito

Industry-giant Metito have been gaining strong momentum since 1958, and in 2023 the company won and successfully executed projects across India, the Middle East and Africa. Overall, Metito have developed some of the most strategic and iconic desalination projects over the years which has allowed them to be the world’s largest desalination plan supplier

Suez

Powerhouse SUEZ are an active champion of the circular economy and continue to break new boundaries in finance, desalination, sustainability, and project delivery. Suez’ commitment to enhancing biodiversity and improving liveability is present within its busy contract activity – Tunisia’s first ever waste water concession will better the lives of nearly 1 million individuals while preventing pollution from nutrient removal. There is also other water transformation management plans in Asia providing science-based education as well as water and sanitation in rural schools.

There continues to be news of significant investment within the world of water! As an industry, we are constantly witnessing attempts to better the lives of our people and to create a more sustainable future for generations to come. On top of this, companies continue to announce new and exciting positions in the aim of elevating their growth journey!
