Waterways mobility in the #Danuberegion

Do you remember what career you dreamed of as a child? Many children living on the banks of the Danube river would be delighted to become skippers. Because of the excitement, the fame or the opportunity to help other people.

However, as they grow older, they might realize that jobs in inland navigation may not be as attractive, e.g. due to the shortage of training offered or the lack of harmonized standards for competences, knowledge and skills of crew members. Indeed, the inland navigation sector is facing a shortage of qualified personnel on board ships, in inland ports and also in the logistics sector. In addition, ports are facing the impact of the transition to automation and digitization on the labor force and lack a competitive framework for port jobs.

In this respect, one of the actions the Priority Area 1a – Waterways mobility of the #EUSDR contributes to the enhanced quality of education and jobs in these sectors and facilitates the uptake of the provisions of Directive 2017/2397 (on the recognition of professional qualifications in inland navigation) in all Danube riparian states, putting specific emphasis on non-EU riparian states such as Serbia, Rep. Moldova and Ukraine.

Check here https://bit.ly/2CCaNh3 for details about this action or about actions referring to the improvement of waterway and port infrastructure & management, to fostering business development, to facilitating fleet modernization, river information services and so much more. All these actions were included in the new #EUSDR Action Plan referring to waterways mobility.
