A few days ago, I had the honor to carry out the regular inspection of an important #dam and #reservoir system in Southern #Spain (which is managed in a brilliant way by my colleague https://www.dhirubhai.net/in/estrella-montoro-cazorla-279326149/?lipi=urn%3Ali%3Apage%3Ad_flagship3_people_connections%3B1Z60EQKXTL6JmhhvrKe%2BYg%3D%3D)
It is very clear how the #HydrologicalDrought and #scarcity is impacting the system operations, which serve both #hydropower and #irrigation
Despite the advances in our industry, further efforts and technologies are needed to enhance #automated #hydrometeorological #networks and thus our operations: enhanced #modeling #DataScience #AI #IoT
When it comes to the #energymix , there is room for hope. For example, only a few kilometers from this system, farmers are going to implement the biggest floating #solar #PV plant in #Andalucía, and #Hybridization is one of the keys for a proper #energytransition
Some definitions:
#drought = lack of #rainfall that derives into reduced #infiltration #runoff and #groundwater recharge, plus increased #evaporation . It is the so-called “ #MeteorologicalDrought
#scarcity = it is the so-called “ #hydrological #drought “ that can happen as a result of #MeterologicalDrought and implies reduced #streamflow , lower #inflow to #reservoirs and impact on #EnvironmentalFlows

3 年in the definitions i am used to, usually drought refers to "natural" meteorological factors (incl climate change), whilst scarcity includes water abstraction and consumption and is thus an indication of unsustainable overexploitation of water resources
