Water Risk Assessment, Supply Chain Risks and more

Hi there,

The first full week of 2025 came and went, and so did two of our best webinars yet. As we planned for the upcoming reporting year and went over the do’s and don’t’s of the Alliance for Water Stewardship Certification, we’re ready to dive into the different ways water risks affect business operations and how to mitigate them.

Read along for upcoming events, expert insights and water tips.

Let’s dive deep for water insights! ????♀?

Tech-Driven Transparency in Water Restoration

宝洁 (P&G) has partnered with Waterplan to enhance its water stewardship project management across various facilities. By leveraging Waterplan's technology, P&G implemented a system that ensures project data is accurate, updated, reviewed, traceable, and securely documented, providing a clear record of every piece of information for each water restoration project they support as part of their Water Positive Future strategy.

This collaboration has enabled P&G to manage multiple projects efficiently, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders more effectively, track progress against targets accurately, and maintain transparency throughout the reporting process.

P&G's commitment to water stewardship underscores the importance of proactive water management in the corporate sector and how technology and evidence-backed data can enable transparency and efficiency in water stewardship project management.

Expert Insight

Teamwork is key to successful sustainability reporting. Early conversations about data needs and usage can uncover valuable insights and build buy-in beyond your core team, as you might need input from unexpected places.

While technology streamlines processes, the human element is equally important.

During our session on preparing for the upcoming sustainability reporting year, Jennifer H. , Senior Water Advisor at Waterplan, explained that you can’t fully rely on technology streamlining processes. Stakeholder understanding and support are crucial for success. Without them, even the best tools and ample time can fall short.

By fostering collaboration and leveraging technology, we can make sustainability reporting more efficient and impactful for everyone involved.

Water Tip of the Week

Closed-loop Water Recycling Systems

Closed-loop water recycling systems are innovative systems designed to treat and reuse water within a facility or process, minimizing the need for fresh water intake and drastically reducing wastewater discharge. These systems are particularly effective in industries where water usage is high, such as manufacturing, agriculture, and energy production.

These systems can significantly reduce industrial water consumption and minimize environmental impact. By installing technologies like reverse osmosis and deionization, facilities can recycle millions of gallons annually while maintaining water quality for industrial processes. Companies such as Brown-Forman have successfully adopted closed-loop systems, saving resources and advancing sustainability goals.

Explore our case study with Brown-Forman to learn more about how closed-loop water recycling systems can help minimize water use.

Los Angeles Firefighters Had Dwindling Water Supply

California Governor Gavin Newsom has initiated an investigation into the water supply problems faced by firefighters during the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. Reports indicated that several fire hydrants experienced a loss of water pressure, which may have hindered firefighting efforts against the Palisades Fire and other blazes. Newsom expressed concern over the unavailability of water from the Santa Ynez Reservoir, which was offline for maintenance when the fires ignited, and emphasized the need for answers to prevent future occurrences

Global Warming's Impact on the Water Cycle

The Global Water Monitor 2024 report highlights the severe impact of global warming on the planet's water cycle. Record high temperatures in 2024 led to climatic extremes, causing devastating floods, droughts, and economic losses exceeding $550 billion. The report calls for stronger measures to mitigate and adapt to these challenges, emphasizing the urgent need for climate action to stabilize global temperatures.

Companies Bridging Water Finance Gap

As water scarcity and flooding risks escalate, water stewardship is critical for businesses. Still, many companies underestimate water risks in their supply chains, focusing instead of operations. Technologies such as 百事 ’s water treatment systems reduce dependence on external supplies as economic opportunities from water stewardship offer businesses strong incentives to act now.
