Water is a precious resource

Water is a precious resource

Today is World Water Day , focusing on the importance of access to clean water.? As climate change impacts increase, and populations grow, there is an urgent need, within and between countries, to unite around protecting and conserving our most precious resource.

?

Around the world, 2.2 billion still live without safely managed drinking water, including 115 million people who drink surface water. (WHO/UNICEF, 2023 ).? Roughly half of the world’s population is experiencing severe water scarcity for at least part of the year (IPCC, 2022 ).

?

I believe we all can, and should play a part, no matter how small, in conserving this precious natural resource and managing how we use it.? When we founded Ena Capital Partners , we wanted to create luxury properties that balanced elegant, modern design with sustainability.? So, our villas in the project we called Terra Homes , need to exemplify sustainability in every way.?

?

I have already written about our focus on building using eco-friendly, sustainable materials that don't contain any synthetic components and our use of clean energy and ways to minimise emissions.?

?

We’ve also put a lot of thought into how we provide pure drinking water and manage water through all the villas.

?

In Terra Homes, our commitment to providing pristine drinking water starts with a robust filtration system designed to meet the highest standards of purity and safety. Leveraging a multi-stage process, our water purification scheme begins by removing coarse impurities like sand and clay, ensuring that only the cleanest water enters our system. Subsequently, the reverse osmosis process is employed, effectively filtering out contaminants such as hardness salts, heavy metals, and nitrates. Following this, carbon filters are utilized to further enhance water quality and taste, guaranteeing an exceptional drinking experience for our residents.

?

Moreover, our water treatment includes a vital mineralization stage, replenishing essential minerals lost during the purification process to promote overall health and wellness. Regarding sustainability, any power required to operate our reverse osmosis systems is sourced from renewable energy, reflecting our dedication to environmentally friendly practices and resource conservation.

?

Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond drinking water to include efficient management of household wastewater. Our innovative approach incorporates local treatment complexes equipped with specialized systems designed to purify wastewater before its release into the environment. This comprehensive process involves several stages, starting with mechanical cleaning to remove large debris and prevent pipeline blockages. Subsequent biological purification utilizes natural microorganisms to decompose organic matter, while chemical cleaning neutralizes toxins and eliminates odours. Ultrafiltration through specialized membranes ensures the removal of even the smallest contaminants, followed by disinfection using ultraviolet rays to eradicate remaining

microorganisms. This meticulous treatment guarantees that water discharged from our homes is safe for environmental release or secondary technical use, reflecting our dedication to sustainable living practices.

?

In the Terra Homes development, we have integrated a comprehensive water recycling strategy that includes both grey water and centralized rainwater collection systems, aimed at minimizing water wastage and promoting sustainable resource management. Our grey water system repurposes wastewater from sinks, showers, and baths, redirecting it for use in irrigating landscapes, flushing toilets, and fulfilling other non-potable demands. This approach significantly reduces the need for fresh water in maintaining our green spaces and operational tasks.

?

?

Simultaneously, our centralized rainwater collection system captures rainwater for a variety of purposes, aligning with our commitment to environmental stewardship. The collected

rainwater is primarily used to water the plants in our gardens, supporting lush and vibrant landscapes without tapping into the municipal water supply. Additionally, this harvested rainwater serves domestic needs, such as washing floors and dishes, as well as technical requirements like cleaning communal areas and washing sidewalks.

?

Although this year’s World Water Day focuses on some political ?aspects of water management as water becomes scarcer and sometimes can become a cause of conflict – it should not prevent all of us from thinking, what can we do in practice, to ensure ?we not only conserve precious water resources but think about how we manage our water use day to day.? For us, it not only reflects our ongoing commitment to responsible and sustainable development – it is common sense!
