Water Matters: Let’s together make every drop count.
?At BSH, we are mindful of climate change and realise that it is among the tallest challenges facing us in our present-day lives, which has begun to impact us, both professionally and personally.?
Climate change is not only affecting renewable surface water and groundwater resources but is escalating the struggle for water among different sectors, having direct repercussions on water, energy, and food security. ?
Water crisis is real, and it is impacting us. In February this year, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report cautioned, “at least 30-50% land, ocean and freshwater need to be conserved to help ensure a liveable climate.”
It is critical to decrease the use of freshwater by adopting and investing in newer technologies, harvesting and using rainwater, improving recycling, and managing water better with the help of local communities. With these steps, we will hopefully achieve our goals of ensuring quality lives for ourselves and for generations to come.
For example, a simple transition from handwashing utensils to using a dishwasher can help conserve up to 50 litres in every wash cycle. The figures add up to almost 18, 250 litres of water annually.
This is a remarkable statistic and an easy, everyday choice that can help in achieving a more sustainable tomorrow. Similarly, shifting from showers to bucket baths, turning off the faucet when shaving or brushing among other day-to-day measures can help conserve gallons of water.
For our 2022 sustainability goals, the company has water conservation listed as one of our top priorities. Across geographies, our industries have been advised to reuse tested appliance water, use effluent treatment plant treated water for appliance testing, install softener plants for using TTRO water, install water aerators and waterless urinals in restrooms, and work towards saving rainwater.
Sustainability at BSH is three-dimensional where all three are not mutually exclusive but are deeply interlinked. Minimization of environmental footprint in all areas of our value chain, the pursuit of a socially sustainable future that is equitable, inclusive, and enables a high-quality life at home and lastly the investment in long-term business persistence that does not exchange for long-term business success for short-term profits. Our focus has been to work with a blend of finding macro solutions and improving micro-behaviours.?
We hope to continue to work in more optimistic ways that can help us move faster into healing such that we leave a far-reaching impact on the global climate, economy and our future generations. In our quest for raising the social benefits to their highest, we hope to reduce our environmental footprint.
