WATER AND THE HUMAN BODY

WATER AND THE HUMAN BODY

How is your week shaping up?

I understand that a lot of people reading this are very much health inclinded, but anytime I lay hands on vital pieces of information that is sure to help us live better and healthier lives, I feel obliged to share.

Do you know that a lot of us live well below the body’s hydration standards?

Do you know that some researches put ingestion of water as the singular most important body-friendly and health-smart habit?

Here’s the thing, I can still remember from our secondary school biology, for those that didn’t have the chance to take biology classes, this is your redemption (Lol!) – Water accounts for 60 percent of our whole body. To break it down, there are about 10 to 11 gallons in the average person.

We use water for a lot of purposes. We use water to circulate oxygen, to cool our body (sweat), to flush unwanted materials and waste products out of our system, to fuel our organs, to aid in blood circulation and so on. But it has also been researched and confirmed that water levels in our body or rather, how much abundance or scarcity of water our body experiences, has the capacity to directly affect our general body functionality – Not just our body functionality, but even our emotions. (You want to know how, follow the Doc… Lol!).

Below are five reasons I think we should top up our level of water intake.

1. Drinking water regularly would help the brain function better. Here is the logic I found behind this statement while I was going to squeeze my forehead (Where did the path of Water and Brain cross?). Water helps in the circulation of oxygen in the body and oxygen is very much needed by the brain for functionality purposes.

Dehydration can (at an almost unnoticeable extent) cause distraction and if too much, can cause total lack of focus and light headedness.

2. You can get cranky when you’re not well hydrated and you may not even know that’s the cause, let alone drawing the line back to dehydration. Research says dehydration can affect your mood and make you grumpy and confused. According to medical research, you can think through a problem clearer and better when you are hydrated.

3. Water composes 75% of our muscle tissue. Hence, you also carry out physical activities better. Proper hydration contributes to increased athletic performance and Dehydration can lead to weakness, headache, fatigue, dizziness, and some other vital system imbalances. For peeps who are also on the weight-loss journey, staying hydrated can very much help out – staying hydrated can serve as an appetite suppressant and help with weight loss.

4. Asides from the fact that our body system needs water to function properly, Water is also vital for the circulation of nutrients in our body. Water helps flush out waste and bacteria from the body. Waste is flushed out from the body system in the form of urine and sweat, and that can only be possible if we supply the body with enough water. If we don't drink water, we don't flush out waste and if waste collects in our body, it causes a myriad of problems.

5. We need water for day-to-day sustainability. According to research, a human being can last a few weeks to a month without food but water, sorry; just a couple of days. Once one hits severe dehydration, all the organs in the body shuts down. That is not to say food is not equally important too. Apologies to our food activists (Lol!).

There are quite more points than this and I’ll like us to also research more on it. Bonus point is, depending on your water intake, you can go a long time without having to use any form of medication. And that’s a fact.

Disclaimer: Now, don’t go all out drinking water nonstop 24/7. (You are not a camel! Lol!). Too much of everything is not good - Just keep yourself hydrated, because water is to the body what the engine oil is to engines.

Have a nice day guys,

Cheers!
