Water Control Management & The Water Scrooge

Water Control Management...Alive and kicking !!!

I am thrilled to announce that Water Control Management has launched its website (www.water-controls.com) and more importantly established a new relationship with @David Schwartz and the team @The Water Scrooge (TWS) as the exclusive distributor of TWS products and services in Canada. Our goal is to expand upon the great results that The Water Scrooge (www.thewaterscrooge.ca) delivers to its multi-residential clients and bring massive water savings ideas and execution to apartment / condo managers throughout Canada.

Water Control Management (WCM) is my latest entrepreneurial adventure and is being carried out with my Co-Founder, Charles Levine. Some 3 1/2 years ago Charles and I incorporated WCM with the notion that we knew we wanted to solve some key problems in relation to water and better understand what the problems are that are facing owner / managers that are dealing with rising water / sewer rates that too often result in a limited capacity to explain and identify the sources of increased water consumption.

The start of our journey was focused on identifying technological solutions and the appropriate partners that can enable us to provide the retrofit multi residential market with a water suite metering solution that is non-invasive and cost effective from an installation and maintenance / monitoring perspective. The solution remains out of reach but we are one step closer by way of formalizing our relationship with The Water Scrooge and their family of patented water measurement sensors and conservation solutions. We remain committed to developing a solution that address this need (Water Suite Metering) with the key objective being to shift the ownership and control of water conservation in rental buildings from one (Landlord ) to many (Tenants) and satisfy the golden rule of conservation by empowering those with a financial interest and ability (through their behaviour) to reduce their daily water consumption.

Our recent due diligence in exploring potential IoT sensors that can accurately measure the volume of water flow within a water supply line brought us very close to a solution but in the end we came up short. We fell short in part because we fell in love with the "prospective" solution as opposed to the problem and confirmed that you can't fit a square peg in a round hole. Our focus and exploration of the potential solution distracted us in part from staying grounded with the problem.

The strategic by-product of this failure was the introduction to David Schwartz and the team at The Water Scrooge. After meeting with David and his team, learning more about their patented and proprietary solutions and touring buildings in Harlem and the Bronx, NYC earlier this summer it became apparent that the problems David and his team have been addressing in NYC for ten years are paralleled in Toronto, GTA and balance of Ontario municipalities faced with rising water and sewer costs. A problem without a solution = an opportunity.

The water problem can be boiled down to one word.... LEAKS Left undetected they are horrendously expensive and more often than not, managers and buildings owners don't know what they don't know.

Through a combination of sustainable conservation tactics (primarily low cost fixture solutions) and patented and proprietary device / equipment monitoring solutions (enabled through IoT advancements), The Water Scrooge is able to deliver solutions that are;

i. Tamper proof from a tenant or resident perspective and;

ii. Deliver both water and heat energy savings;

ii. Enable on-site management to get real time notifications of when water is leaking and most importantly where it is leaking and;

iii. quantify the exact cost of said leaks (which is the primary source of motivation for fixing the leaks)

Adopting The Water Scrooge's model we are offering conservation investments and leak detection monitoring services on a;

(1) Fee for Service Basis (One time install cost + Annual Monitoring) where the building manager / operator is empowered with the information and evidence to identify and thus fix the problem OR

(2) Shared Savings (those who know me from the Property Tax world can appreciate my natural instinct on how to identify, create and deliver value for others using a shared savings model). In this model, there is no limit to the equipment / device / sensor investment and we provide on-site labour to fix the leaks as we are compensated by driving the water cost down to the lowest possible level.

If you are managing a multi-residential building (apartment or condominium) and;

i. have monthly water costs at or approaching $80 / unit and/or;

ii. have un-explained spikes in consumption that are trending upward and are getting increasingly expensive

Let us know at [email protected] We will walk you through our Measure to Minimize platform and will ask to look at some billing / consumption history to see if we can fix your problem.
