Watching K-Dramas Can Improve Your Mental Health

Okay... Guys, I have to say this because it is True! K-dramas can improve our mental health. Besides that, dramas can also be considered good for those who deal with anxiety, or even normally they can help us boost our mood. There are lots of advantages (and of course, side effects too if we are binge-watching like crazy??) that these Korean dramas bring to the table. If you think my words are false, you can search the same on the internet. There are many studies that proved that these dramas can be a beneficial factor in our lives moreover having a good impact on our mental health.

Now, some people will come and say... I don't want to watch all those lovey-dovey, extra fluffy, misleading, over-the-top romantic dramas which don't make sense in real life. Well... there are some K-dramas like that ... and some other ones that make sense too. See there is a pool of K-dramas that are available for us on the platform for free (some even paid but we watch them on illegal sites... am I right??) and we have plenty of genres to explore. There are more than just romance or rom-com dramas, there are spice-of-life dramas that are based on the ground reality of life, there is action, thriller, crime, documentary, law, comedy, dark humor, emotional, and healing dramas too. There is something for everyone and if you say that you don't want to watch 16hrs or 20hrs of a whole drama then my friend... there are short dramas too, ranging from just 2hrs of run time in total to even 20hrs or 100hrs (that's a lot but there are some dramas that are that long?). The point here is that there isn't a specific target audience, there is something for everyone and it is quite a lot.

Personally, if you ask me then... I would say healing or spice-of-life dramas are great for our mental health. Usually, in these types of dramas, there isn't unnecessary action or senseless plot twists... everything related to them can be so relatable to us. We connect, we laugh, we cry, and we feel what these characters are trying to portray, we feel the story, and when we start feeling and relating to it... that's when the magic happens.

There are lots of great Korean dramas that fall in that healing/spice of life genre and here are some of my personal recommendations:

  1. Hospital Playlist Season 1 & 2 ??- The stories of people going through their days that are seemingly ordinary but actually special, at the hospital, a place is known as the microcosm of life, where someone is being born and someone's life meets their ending. The five doctors are long-time friends of 20 years who started their undergrad in 1999 in the same medical school and now are colleagues in the same hospital and have a band together.
  2. Move To Heaven ???- nHan Geu Roo is a 20-year-old with Autism. He works for his father’s business “Move To Heaven,” a company that specializes in crime scene cleanup, where they also collect and arrange items left by deceased people, and deliver them to the bereaved family. When Geu Roo's father dies, Geu Roo's guardianship passes to his uncle, ex-convict Cho Sang Gu, who is a martial arts fighter in underground matches. Per the father's will, Sang Gu must care for and work with Geu Roo in “Move To Heaven” for three months to gain full guardianship and claim the inheritance. Eying money, Sang Gu agrees to the conditions and moves in.
  3. Extraordinary Attorney Woo ??- Diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, 27-year-old Woo Young Woo graduated at the top of her class from the prestigious Seoul National University for both college and law school due to her high IQ of 164, impressive memory, and creative thought process. Working as a lawyer, she finds herself struggling when it comes to social interactions.
  4. My Liberation Notes ??- Set in Sanpo Village where more people leave than remain, the three Yeom siblings, Chang Hee, Mi Jung, and Ki Jung, wish to escape from a life rife with uncertainty. A mysterious man, Mr. Goo, moves into their neighborhood. He is a drunkard with the look of someone with many burdens and secrets. His cautious personality and preference for keeping to himself make him the subject of gossip. Mi Jung, the youngest and most timid Yeom sibling, decides to approach him.
  5. If You Wish Upon Me ??- Yoon Kyeo Re is a young man who has known nothing but misery ever since he was a child. He was abused while still a boy and had a torrid time at the orphanage where he was raised. He then spent time in a juvenile detention center. And as an adult, things got no better, leading to him serving time in prison. Beatings and misery are all he knows, and he finds himself at the end of his tether, finally facing the void… But when he is ordered by a court to serve his community service at an end-of-life care facility for the terminally ill, things begin to change for him. Here he meets the tireless Kang Tae Shik, a middle-aged man who leads the volunteer team at the facility. Kang Tae Shik has created a unit called Team Genie, which is dedicated to granting dying patients their last wishes. No matter what people ask for, Team Genie will work their hardest to make those precious last wishes come true. He also meets Seo Yeon Joo, a young nurse who refuses to give up on her patients and tries to keep them physically active at all times. Will working at this facility help turn Yoon Gyeo Ree’s life around? Or is it too late to change his destiny?
  6. It's Okay To Not Be Okay????- Moon Gang Tae is a community health worker at a psychiatric ward who was blessed with everything including a great body, smarts, the ability to sympathize with others, patience, the ability to react quickly, stamina, and more. Meanwhile, Ko Moon Young is a popular writer of children’s literature who, due to suffering from an antisocial personality disorder, seems extremely selfish, arrogant, and rude. Moon Gang Tae denies love and Ko Moon Young doesn’t know it. The two defy fate and fall in love, finding their souls and identities in the process.

In conclusion to this blog, all I would like to say is that find something that can help you boost good mental health in your life. Korean dramas are just an example to prove my point (it is true tho??), find something in your life that makes you happy, that you enjoy doing, and every day you wait for that one thing to happen or to indulge in that thing. So, just make sure you're looking out for yourself as this is self-love and this is what you call taking good care of your mental health.

This is it for today, I will see you next to next Friday with another blog article and another topic. Till then, bye-bye, take care, and keep smiling??.

At 68 I am a watcher of K Drama and C Drama. I have been wondering of late if there is a "group" of like minded old people? I have a lot of questions being European about aspects of dramas , storylines etc and it would be nice to disscuss with similiar aged persons
