Watch out Miro!!

My wife recently self published her first book and it was a huge labor of love. I could never do it and I am so proud of what she has accomplished. As most of you know it is hard for self published authors to stand out and we were discussing if she could do something on Instagram to create a following for her and the book.
Now I am not on Instagram and not a big marketer and so I was at a loss, but as I have been doing, I asked myself - WWGD? What Would GenAI Do?
This time instead of just having it give me text, I wanted to see if I could have it generate a MindMap. For those of you who know me, you know I love my Miro and LucidSpark and looking at these ideas visually. So I went down the rabbithole of - Can GenAI generate a MindMap of an instagram campaign.
I gave it the prompt and here is the output (there is a custom GPT called WhimsicalDiagrams) -
I am pretty impressed. It took me 5 mins to get this. Now I can go and edit it and make changes but it does make me ask myself, why would I create this from scratch? I am not saying that this is the final version but it is way easier for me to now edit this than create it from scratch.

8 个月Vikram Ekambaram - I’ve just had a fascinating experience with GenAI in diagramming complex technical processes. I created a sequence diagram outlining the interactions between a video player, browser, and streaming server using the HLS protocol. It’s a bit on the technical side, I admit, but GenAI simplified the entire process, turning what could have been a cumbersome task into something relatively straightforward and surprisingly enjoyable. Here’s what stood out to me: 1) The clarity that visual diagrams bring to complex tech processes is invaluable. 2) Traditionally, creating these diagrams manually can be pretty tedious. Experiences like these highlight the innovative impact GenAI is starting to have on our workflows, making even the most daunting tasks more manageable and less time-consuming.

8 个月IF... the goal is to create a finished mind map or network diagram then I would agree that this is an interesting application of GenAI. Here's why I think this poses very little threat to the aforementioned technologies though. The beauty and utility of the mind map or whiteboard, however, is not their ability to create a finished visualization but their ability to be used to facilitate sessions to ideate on problems, designs, organizational structures, current and future state processes and many many other situations or challenges. The magic is how they help people think, not the visualization. Used this way, the resulting visualizations are often somewhat messy and semi-structured but the people who contributed to them tend to be satisfied that they capture many of the group's best (and worst) ideas. The process then moves to organizing, categorizing, prioritizing and hashing out a plan of action (or a finished visualization)... I am not convinced that GenAI does this well and not convinced that automation of this interaction is actually beneficial... You're about as well-versed as anyone in the "journey is more important than destination" argument. I'm making it here. My invoice is in your inbox.
