Watch How Mama Does It
Anne Royse
Director, Talent Acquisition at the #1 Sparkling Water Co. in the USA - Now Hiring!
"WHAT?! You're leaving Aegis?!? But I thought you loved it here! You bleed Aegis blue! You're a big part of the reason I joined the company! You can't go!"
That was a common refrain when I announced I would be leaving.
It's true. I did love it there. It was fun to build an internal leadership recruitment function for the company, and I so enjoyed the challenge of finding stellar talent from top luxury lifestyle companies around the world. Imagine reaching out to someone who opened a Four Seasons hotel, and pitching the idea of working in assisted living! I love a good challenge! And I love the people drawn to the meaningful work of caring for others.
But life threw me a curve ball. My dad had a massive heart attack and nearly died. As I sat by his bedside, listening to the doctor talk about various end of life scenarios; a million things labeled "work" were begging to be handled.
Timing has a way of getting your attention. That same week, I had messages from two big movers and shakers in the publishing world. They heard about the memoir I am working on and they were interested! A week later a third joined in. And a week after that, I was recruited for a role that would pay twice what I was making. Someone was trying to tell me something. I would be okay.
I'm a single parent.
My kids are leaving the nest.
Who says I can't stretch my wings and fly, too?!
Watch how momma does it!
Nobody gets to the end of their life and says, "I'm sure glad I didn't take any chances."
But what about that dream you had your whole life? Did you ever even give it a shot? Down to the marrow of my being, I believe every single person has a reason for being here, and I so want to give hope to those who may be facing incredible challenges. I have to do this.
As a recruiter with over 15 years of experience, I'm always looking for candidates with a good story about their career progression. My story this go around is that I hope my story is so good it becomes a New York Times Bestseller!
But you know what? Even if that doesn't happen, some day when I'm old and gray, I'll be glad for having taken a shot!

About the picture on the right:
The artwork behind me is made from hundreds of stories in newsprint. I'm holding many, many stories in the form of business cards of people I recruited to my last employer. When we weave our stories together, we make something beautiful.
Fun Fact: I have partnered with some of the best in the business and I am working on a couple of key searches as I launch my book. So don't be shocked if you get a recruiting call from me! Stay tuned for updates on LinkedIn.
A humble request: Please consider going to www.AnneRoyse.com and subscribing for updates in the bottom right corner. I promise I won't hound you with a bazillion emails or sell your info to Russia. Publishers like to see subscribers. And I'd be delighted to make you the first to know when the book is coming out, etc. Be sure to check out my new video while you're there! Thanks for your support!

October 5, 2019 Update: It has been a whirlwind! I've accomplished all I set out to with setting up the launchpad for my book. I'm now working with two different literary agents to take this to publishers. I haven't signed with one yet, we're still having some back and forth on ideas, and it will help all parties decide if we're a good fit. You may find more updates on my Author Facebook Page, as well as my blog, and Instagram. Meantime, the moment word got out that I've started my own recruiting firm again, I find myself delighted to be working with some of the best in the business. If you're in need of a recruiter to fill leadership positions, or you're looking for your next gig, please reach out. You'll find an update of the searches I'm working on toward the top of my LinkedIn profile.

5 年You are amazing and I can't wait to see what you do with this opportunity!
Alabama & NW Florida Panhandle Market Manager at VaxCare
5 年It’s funny how God sometimes has to give us “Neon Flashing Signs” to force us out of our “comfort zones” especially when we love our current state, to push us from good to GREAT!! I let fear of change hold me back for YEARS, and after keeping my job for the 5th time in Dec 2017, 2 months later (while still literally thanking sweet Jesus for letting me keep my job to support a family of 4) I had VaxCare fall right I to my lap. Still spent 3 weeks “trying to poke holes in it” b/c it definitely wasn’t logical to leave a multi-billion dollar company for a small privately owned company I’d never heard of. After 3 weeks of every “Well they won’t have this” being answered with an option BETTER than Merck’s and being the first and only Rep in AL, it was almost like God saying “Seriously why are you even doubting this anymore? If you literally have nothing to lose, then what in the world are you fearful of”? Very eye opening...as a very confident independent woman, I never even realized how much fear held me back.
