Waste Paper Solutions and Universeal

This month at Waste Paper Solutions we have been speaking to one of our most important suppliers.

Universeal UK manufacture and supply our security seals. These seals are very important to our day to day operation and are instrumental in keeping our customers' data secure. The blue 'tags' are supplied to all of our customers with their shredding sacks and we also send them out in our Shred Packs. The tags are used to seal each sack to keep the contents secure before transporting to our shredding facility for secure disposal. Each tag is printed with a unique serial number, allowing us to identify every shredding sack we pick up for destruction.

Sara Mason is the Sales Director at Universeal UK - She gave us a brief intro to the work they do;

I help customers choose the correct products for their applications, advising on options and discussing how to achieve the most economical and time efficient solutions.

My role involves discussing and anticipating new and emerging markets for security products, tamper evident packaging, asset identification and tagging across a range of industries and sectors. I work with a large range of companies and individuals, from small business owners to multinational companies and organisations.A typical day could involve dealing with large multinational customers to small business owners looking to find solutions to a problem in their supply chain.

Q&A;

How long has Universeal UK been in operation?

We have been operating since 1992.

What difficulties have you faced either with innovation, production, sales or industry sector?

Since the pandemic and the subsequent reopening of the economy our production facilities have faced labour shortages which we have had to overcome with a range of flexible working strategies and investment in new areas.

What is the best part about working for Universeal?

Helping customers find solutions to their problems which enables them to work safely and maximise revenue. I enjoy seeing how our different products are used across a range of industries and it is rewarding to build relationships with the customers who return to us again and again. As a family business, we strive to provide a personal and efficient service to everyone who makes an enquiry, big or small, and it is always nice to speak to happy customers. It is also very rewarding to see our products in action in the real world. How long have you been working with Waste Paper Solutions?

Since 2018

What innovations do you have in the pipeline?

We have a new and improved customer friendly website currently in development which will encompass a trade portal to enable customers to easily keep track of their past orders and place new ones. It will also facilitate how customers order customised products, printed to their own specifications.

We are also trailing use of an environmentally friendly plastic salvaged from marine environments. This should enable us to lower our carbon footprint, something we feel very strongly about.

Thank you for speaking with us Sara - we look forward to seeing the products produced using salvaged plastic!?

As a shredding business, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and working with service providers who are striving to reduce their environmental impact is one way we can ensure we are on the right path.

In addition to reducing our own environmental impact, we also work with our customers to help them reduce theirs. We offer a variety of shredding services that can help businesses and individuals safely and securely dispose of sensitive documents. We also offer recycling services for electronic waste.

We believe that everyone has a responsibility to protect the environment, and we are committed to doing our part. We encourage our customers to join us in reducing their carbon footprint and making a positive impact on the planet.

Here are some tips for reducing your carbon footprint as a service provider:

  • Use energy-efficient equipment.
  • Recycle using the waste hierarchy framework
  • Use sustainable materials.
  • Offset your carbon emissions.
  • Encourage your customers to reduce their carbon footprint.
