As a widely used packaging material, Tetra Pak has become the preferred packaging for many products due to its superior sealing and convenience. However, since Tetra Pak contains a variety of materials (such as paper, plastic, aluminum), it has a high recycling value.
Composition of Tetra Pak and Recycling Challenges
Tetra Pak cartons are typically made of three layers: paper, polyethylene (PE), and aluminum foil. Specifically, Tetra Pak packaging generally consists of:
Paper Layer: About 70% of the composition, providing structural support and moisture protection.
Plastic Layer (Polyethylene, PE): About 20%, used for sealing and preventing liquid leakage.
Aluminum Foil Layer: About 10%, used to block air and light, protecting the contents of the packaging.
Waste Tetra Pak Carton Recycling Line
To efficiently recycle waste Tetra Pak cartons and recover the valuable resources, modern waste Tetra Pak recycling lines need to be equipped with advanced technological facilities that cover processes such as feeding, sorting, cleaning, and material separation. The specific recycling process generally involves the following key steps:
Waste Carton Feeding and Initial Compression
Waste Tetra Pak cartons are sent to the recycling system via conveyor belts. Before processing, they are compressed and organized to reduce volume, making subsequent treatment easier.
Crushing and Layer Separation
The cartons are crushed into pieces by a shredder, after which they enter a hydraulic separation system. Water flow effectively separates the paper, plastic, and aluminum layers. The paper typically floats to the water surface, while the aluminum and plastic layers sink to the bottom.
Separation and Recycling of Paper Layer
The paper layer, which floats on the water surface, undergoes further cleaning and processing to remove impurities. Once cleaned, it can be used as raw material for producing cardboard or other paper products. Recycling the paper layer helps reduce the consumption of forest resources and minimizes environmental impacts in the pulp production process.

Separation of Plastic and Aluminum Foil
The plastic (PE) and aluminum foil layers are further separated using specialized equipment. The aluminum foil is typically recovered through high-temperature melting or mechanical methods, and can be reprocessed into aluminum products. The plastic layer is either chemically recycled or subjected to pyrolysis to convert it into fuel or recycled plastic for use in other products.
Washing and Drying
After the separation process, all materials undergo a washing process to remove residual contaminants, ensuring the recovered materials meet recycling standards. Drying further helps remove moisture, preventing spoilage during storage or transportation.
Final Product Preparation and Packaging
The recovered Paper Pulp , Plastic, and Aluminum Film materials are sorted and packaged according to specifications, ready for sale or further processing.
