Washington Commanders Cut Kicker After Sexual Harassment Lawsuit

WASHINGTON -- The Washington Commanders released their kicker this week after two women filed a lawsuit against him alleging sexual harassment.

The women say Brandon McManus “grinded” against them and made inappropriate comments during a charter flight last year.

Until this week, McManus was the Commanders’ kicker under a $3.6 million one-year contract. His statistics show that last season he went 30-for-37 on field goal attempts and made all 35 extra point attempts.

The Commanders explained their decision to cut him from the team with a statement saying, “We take allegations of this nature very seriously and are looking into the matter.”

The Commanders signed him to a contract in March. Before that, he was a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The lawsuit says McManus’ offensive behavior occurred during a 2023 flight to London, where the Jaguars played the Atlanta Falcons. His two accusers were flight attendants.

They say the flight "quickly turned into a party" where McManus and other Jaguars team members invaded their personal space and disregarded air travel safety and federal laws. They say McManus passed out $100 bills to try to get the flight attendants to drink and dance for him.

One of the women said McManus tried to kiss her while she was seated during turbulence and rubbed up against her twice while she served food and drinks. The other flight attendant said McManus rubbed against her but "smirked and walked away" when she confronted him.

He denied the allegations in a statement through his attorney.

“Brandon would like to thank the Washington Commanders for the opportunity to be a part of the organization," the statement said. "However, we reiterate that the allegations against Brandon are and remain absolutely false and importantly, are contradicted by indisputable evidence and the accusers’ own prior inconsistent statements and omissions. “

The lawsuit also alleges the Jaguars failed to supervise McManus and to create a safe working environment for the flight attendants.
