Enrichment and Extension Extravaganza

As part of our return to school and to mark the beginning of the new academic year here at WASCZ we held our annual Enrichment & Extension (E&X) Fair. In this flexible, open and dynamic learning community, E&X is always a significant component since it was established in 2012.?It bears testament to our commitment to holistic education philosophy and extra-curricular learning.?

Passionate students and dedicated teachers have collectively prepared 97 E&X activities for this coming academic year.?Our E&X opportunities exist for the wellbeing of our students and range from novice to advanced level and from general to specific，allowing students to engage with subjects of personal interest beyond academics, cultivating these interests into lifelong hobbies. Below is an excerpt briefing of the E&X selection.

Academic/Language

Here, not only do mathematics, biology, chemistry, and physics enthusiasts embark on explorations into various specialized fields of this unknown world, but students can also get hands-on experience in building a microcosm of a tropical rainforest, participating in hydroponic plant experiments, learning the construction, design, and aerodynamics of model aircraft, understanding the internal workings of engines, and assembling a functioning motorcycle.?Additionally, they can master coding languages like Scratch, HTML/CSS, and Python to create their own personalized games, animations, and websites.?

In addition to the opportunity to learn Spanish at WASCZ, interested students can also join the French Club and the German Club in E&X, where they can further explore language learning.

Music/Art/Drama

Music:?It's not just about ensemble practice with over 20 types of musical instruments and joining the choir. Experience the allure of the stage, and you can also learn music composition, production, and the art of vinyl record scratching from world-renowned artists.

Art:?You can explore painting, sketching, watercolors, oil painting, and more. Try unleashing your imagination across various mediums. You can also experience graphic design, interior design, street art, vibrant murals, and ceramics.

Drama: Joining Curtains Up Crew, Camera Crew, and?Wycombe Abbey TV?to?experience the daily workings of in the film and television industry, you can also learn to edit professional short videos and Vlogs.

Sports Challenges

Fencing, renowned for its unpredictable movements and lightning-fast tactical shifts, teaches students the art of graceful combat;?Learning to sail or row on the tranquil waters of the expansive West Taihu Lake, experiencing the ultimate essence of teamwork and individual mastery.

Challenging oneself goes beyond just physical activity. You can also sign up for first aid and CPR courses, where you can learn essential life-saving skills through simulated training.

Special-interest clubs help students master new skills and help to enhance the school community. Similarly, our sports programs focus on beginner skill development as well as enabling our students to compete at the highest levels.

With nearly a hundred clubs and societies ready to go, the 2023-2024 academic year is bound to be busy and exciting!
