The Warrior and the Mystic

The Warrior and the Mystic

It's an interesting question...??"Why should I work with you as a coach?" and one that often starts a fantastic coaching relationship. I'm always happy to answer the question...

...in good coaching style with a question, "What do most want from a coach?"

As this will tell me if there is going to be a good fit. If the answer falls into some kind of "soulcare" I know it'll work.

?SOULCARE

Of course for me and my "Religion of One's Own" the Soul is the Foundation.??

“It is only through mystery and madness that the soul is revealed”?― Thomas Moore??
“Disappointments in love, even betrayals, and losses, serve the soul at the very moment they seem in life to be tragedies. The soul is partly in time and partly in eternity. We might remember the part that resides in eternity when we feel despair over the part that is in life.” ―?Thomas Moore?

The soul is roughly defined for me as that which is eternal within us but has incorporated into a material being... the mechanism of reincarnation, karma, dharma.???

The soul is here to grow and learn about God and does so through LOVE.??

LOVE being the primary emotion of the universe and what spins the wheel.??

That soul sits inside a person... who is made up of nature, nurture and something else.

And yes I think we come with strengths?and weaknesses and preferences.??

Gifts.??

Our genius or intelligence...??

And this way...

And it all starts to blend at some point... but yes... we have our soul, our gifts, our strengths?and weaknesses. ?

And the path through the cornfield?is unique for each of us?but the underlying growth is stable...??

We have states and stages...??

And complex...??

Or simple...

Trust the process...

For me...???I think this quote best sums up my approach:

“The "fear of life" is the fear of separation and individuation. The "fear of death" is the fear of union and merger—in essence, the loss of individuality. Both separation and union, however, are desired as well as feared since the "will to separate" correlates with the creative impulse and the "will to unite" with the need for love. To respond obsessively just to one need—by choosing to separate "totally" or to merge "totally"—is to have the other thrown back at one's self." — Otto Rank?

That we are here to love (ultimate union) and we are here to give our gifts (individuation)?and my job as a coach is to understand those two processes as best I can and to locate where clients are blocked in each/either and help them remove those barriers.??

They are intertwined of course... It's all nonduality with duality sitting in the center of that as a paradox...???

OM. In the centre of the castle of Brahman, our own body, there is a small shrine in the form of a lotus-flower, and within can be found a small space. We should find who dwells there, and we should want to know him. -- The Upanishads?

...but clients more often than not stuck in one area: either their individuation process has stalled out AND/OR they are resisting intimacy.

INDIVIDUATION & UNION ?

The path of Individuation is much like Jung laid out... an exploration of shadow, anima, animas, puer and senex or if you wanted to use Myss (Child, Saboteur, Prostitute, Victim) or Ho'Oponopono and Flow... or the Pillars of Happiness from Dr. Seligmen...?

I see that path as Masculine. Linear. Focused on doing.??

What's the ultimate goal???

Remove blocks/barriers so your gifts can flow.??

Feel fully alive.??

The path of the Warrior.??

Balanced by the path of the Mystic.

The Mystic...

I see this path as Feminine. Circular. Focused on being.

What's the ultimate goal?

Service in Joy.

The other side of the work is what blocks and barriers are there to being in a fully committed loving erotic pleasure filled relationship... with your partner, with nature, with God.

What primal night does Man touch with his senses? Ay, Love is a journey through waters and stars, through suffocating air, sharp tempests of grain: Love is a war of lightning, and two bodies ruined by a single sweetness. Kiss by kiss I cover your tiny infinity, your margins, your rivers, your diminutive villages, and a genital fire, transformed by delight, slips through the narrow channels of blood to precipitate a nocturnal carnation, to be, and be nothing but light in the dark.?

I mean would you ever trust someone with soul-care who didn't read poetry?

The "nuts and bolts" of a relationship becomes mechanistic without the soul...??

Bader and Pearson's Model

If you can't love yourself, your partner freely what chance do you have in feeling God's love????

"Indeed, mystical insight sometimes constitutes a reversal of things as they apparently are. Conventional wisdom is that modesty or shame (hiya) is part of faith. But the famous Sufi poet Jalaluddin Rumi (d. 1273) retorted, "Shame hinders you from true faith," because it inhibits people from willingly sacrificing reputation and worldly interests in the way of God (Schimmel 122). Among some Sufis, it became the highest virtue to be seen doing reprehensible things, for in this way men would be repulsed, and one's service to God would be for the sake of God alone." What is the ultimate goal of the Mystic?

To not be afraid of death, to revel how the clay dances.

John O’Donohue...

On the day when the weight deadens on your shoulders and you stumble, may the clay dance to balance you.

And when your eyes freeze behind the grey window and the ghost of loss gets into you, may a flock of colours, indigo, red, green and azure blue, come to awaken in you a meadow of delight.

When the canvas frays in the currach of thought and a stain of ocean blackens beneath you, may there come across the waters a path of yellow moonlight to bring you safely home.

May the nourishment of the earth be yours, may the clarity of light be yours, may the fluency of the ocean be yours, may the protection of the ancestors be yours.

And so may a slow wind work these words of love around you, an invisible cloak to mind your life.

...........................

CONCLUSION

And so my goal is when someone works with me... I can walk the path of the Warrior and the Mystic... help a soul confront its shadow, find its gifts, integrate its anima or animus, not sell out their integrity or give up on their courage.??

To help them individuate and assimilate.??

As best I can...??

I'm a work in progress too.??

So for me I wouldn't let anyone speak into my life that didn't...

  1. Have a relationship with the unknown
  2. Read poetry and understand something about the nature of love
  3. Couldn't do shadow-work safely
  4. Hadn't reached a level of elderhood beyond where I was currently developmentally
  5. Know something about adult pedagogy
  6. Hadn't mastered the path of the Mystic and the Warrior
  7. Didn't know how to have fun...

But that's just me... maybe you're looking for something or someone different.
