What is the Warrior Mind?
The Warrior Mind has little to do with War. But it does have something in common with War and that is winning. But again the Warrior Mind is not found only in soldiers or commanders. It is found in all those who are Winners – Winners as Kings like Maharaja Shivaji Raje or Great Thinkers like Mahavir or even World leaders like Martin Luther King Jr.
If we look at such great personalities we immediately feel that we can never be like them. Maybe but maybe not. All of us in our own lives want to succeed. We want to achieve the highest level possible for us in whatever job we are now doing.
While it is quite possible that very few of us will end up like Shivaji Maharaj or Steve Jobs it is very much possible to be the Best Manager in your Department or the Best CEO of your organisation. In these series of posts my request is to absorb and follow to the best of your ability.
If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?

What is Success? Do you really want it? This short story will illustrate better.
A student went to his guru and asked,” Sir, what is the secret of success?” The guru said, “I’ll tell you but first let us take a swim in the pond.” The student was puzzled but agreed. When both were in the water, the guru put his hands on the student’s head and pushed him under the water. Soon the student was struggling for breath and started fighting for his life. The guru let him go and he came up gulping air. He asked the guru, “Why did you do this?” The guru asked, “When you were struggling in the water what was the only thing you wanted?” The student said, “Life” The guru said, “If you want to succeed then you have to work for it like you did for survival. Any other feeling will never bring you real success.”
So Success is not a ‘Chalte Hai’ effort. It has to be all or nothing. In the right way. If you had rich parents you would not probably have the will to struggle but whatever you achieve may be more due to your parents than yourself. I don’t know if there is any life after death but if we go through this life without achieving our full potential then what is the difference between an animal or plant and our self?
A story in the Bible goes thus: A rich man had to go away from his city for a few months so he called his 3 servants and gave the first 5 talents (gold coins), the next he gave 3 and the last, 1 gold coin. The first traded wisely and earned 5 more, the second also used his coins and earned 3 more. The third said to himself, “let me bury my talent. In case I lose it in business my master will punish me.”
When the master came back and took the account he praised the first 2 but was very angry on the third. “You lazy and useless servant you wasted the talent given to you.” He threw the servant out and gave his coin to the first. “To the one who increases his talents more will be given, but who wastes his talent even that will be taken from him.”
There is a great lesson to learn from this. We all have some talents, some gifts which we must use and multiply. If we don’t use them even they will be taken from us. Our minds are one such gift. It is a wrong notion that we are restricted by the brain we are born with. The brain is like a muscle. The more we use it in a structured way the more it will develop.
As all development goes, we can ourselves develop to a great extent. Beyond that we may need the help of a guru. But nothing should stop us from making our brains like a Warrior Brain.
A Warrior Brain is Sharp – Incisive – knowledgeable- Goal Oreinted.
In further posts we will explore in more detail how we all can develop a WARRIOR BRAIN.
