Many LinkedIn profile sections can be optimized to increase our online credibility. The prime real estate includes our profile photo. Although it is a core section, some LinkedIn members may not be aware of how it matters in a very important way.
The overall purpose of the Profile Photo is to help people easily recognize you on and offline.
A quick scan of random LinkedIn profiles shows the vast differences in how people approach the feature. Some may have high-quality, professional studio headshots, while others may have car selfies, full-body photos, cropped ones from an event or family photo, etc.
Of the 1 Billion+ LinkedIn members, very few may be aware of the platform's User Agreement and Professional Community Policies standards for Profile Photos. Per the Policies:
Do not create a fake profile or falsify information about yourself: We don’t allow fake profiles or entities. Do not post misleading or deceptive information about yourself, your business, your qualifications, work experience, affiliations, or achievements. Do not use an image of someone else, or any other image that is not your likeness, for your profile photo.
Although the Profile Photo guidelines may seem too restricting, keep in mind that the policies are in place to maintain integrity and security on the platform.
LinkedIn may remove Profile Photos that are:
* Company logos
* Emojis
* Landscapes
* Animals
* Words or phrases
* Flags
* Childhood or baby photos
领英推荐
* Others’ likenesses, including stock imagery, photos of celebrities, and depictions of
fictional characters? ?
LinkedIn is a professional and business networking platform, so certain standards have to be adhered to to keep your account in good standing. Additionally, there may be people who opt not to accept your Connection Invite or to send you one because your Profile Photo is misleading.
Perhaps you're considering bypassing the restrictions by not having a Profile Photo at all. This can be problematic as well. The absence of a photo can send red flags to LinkedIn and viewers of your profile. It could give the impression that your account is fake.
There are still some freedoms to be creative with your Profile Photo. LinkedIn permits the use of:
* An illustration
* Caricature
* Or another artistic rendering of yourself
Overall, as we use LinkedIn, we always have to stay mindful that it does not operate like other social media platforms. To stay in good standing and not run the risk of our accounts being flagged or restricted, we have to adhere to the platform's rules. LinkedIn's code of conduct is minimal to the benefits that it offers. Put great thought into your Profile Photo so it works favorably for you.
There are countless other Profile sections that you can be creative with to more fully reflect your personality and expertise.
