Warning - Wordpress 4.5 is coming....

Just a heads up. Next week WordPress 4.5 is coming out and on this particular major update apart from some new features, they are also removing a bunch of legacy functions which a lot of plugins rely on to work.

Beware Do not update yet!

Green Umbrella is not planning to update any of our sites to the new version from day 1 until they release the sub-version(s) 4.5.1 / 4.5.2 (standard practice for us).

Just in case the readers of this blog may be tempted to simply click update, before trying (of course full backup), but apart from that, every single site will need to be audited to make sure that each and every plugin is compatible with the latest version of Wordpress prior to updating. (as it will only take one bad plugin to bring the site down).  

Plugins or themes which are no longer developed / updated to the latest version of WP will need to be replaced with newer alternatives. (If you are a GU client, then please do not worry as our themes are all compatible)

Sites which have plugins or themes still under the original author's development radar awaiting to be updated will need to be temporarily on hold from main Wordpress core updates until these have been released.People who click update and hope will most likely be disappointed - you have been warned.

We will post updates like this as and when we feel that something important needs to be said.
