WARNING: Top 10 Signs of Burnout

Not sure if you're burned out or just need a vacation? Check out these Top 10 Signs of Burnout to assess if what you're struggling with will be cured by more breaks or if you have some deeper emotional and physical regulation needs that need to be addressed to reach your greatest potential without sacrificing your well-being:


  1. Are you feeling chronically fatigued? You know that debilitating feeling behind your eyes, perhaps lethargy in your limbs. It's hard to peel yourself out of bed.
  2. You suffer from insomnia.
  3. Impaired focus and forgetfulness. Does it feel like you're losing your cognitive function even at the age of 35 or 40? When you're burned out your mind starts to feel like it's 80!
  4. You're suffering from physical ailments, perhaps chronic pain, hormonal imbalances or chronic disease. Bessel van der Kolk, MD describes how stress and trauma are stored in our bodies in his book, "The Body Keeps Score". It's true and it can present as "dis-ease" because we are feeling uneasy.
  5. You feel irritable on a regular basis.
  6. You've lost interest and motivation for the things you once loved.
  7. You've started to detach and isolate more.
  8. You're viewing the world with more cynicism and negativity.
  9. Decrease in productivity.
  10. You feel hopeless and despair about your future.

If you resonate with any of these signs of burnout, I want you to know that you're not alone and that there is nothing wrong with you. You've more than likely navigated around uncertainty, challenge, or adversity in life, leaving you in a place of dysregulation.

In early 2020, I found myself burned out after many traumas occurred in my life 5 years prior. I kept smiling, keep reinventing myself as a new Mom and corporate sales leader. Then, started a business, and guess what ended back in burnout several years later.

But why would that happen? Because the core wounds that we carry with us must be addressed before our energy fully unlocks to a place of consistency, peace and growth. We must work on mindset, emotional and physical regulation skills, trauma processing, and step into a new way of leadership being to create the life that we really want beyond our past experiences. That is what true burnout recovery is.

Burnout recovery is not a corporate-sponsored yoga or meditation class, it's not a pill, it's not a vacation. It's a lifestyle change and reconditioning process for us high achievers. When we invest in our growth, we also see our self-worth grow beyond the achievement-based focus that we've lived our entire lives.
