Published in my newest book, Dropping Ants into Poems, 2017. Although this is a stand-alone poem about the La Brea tar pits in downtown Los Angeles, it is actually richer in the context of the book because the entire book was written together with a unique story and theme. The speaker recollects things about childhood and talks about an in-secti-vestigation into the Timeless Lore.
The poem prior to this one in the book is about the names of Los Angeles sports teams, General Patton, and Armageddon; while the poem following is called "Humanity's Suicide Attempt" so this one sits well poised between end-of-world and end-of-humanity themes and fits perfectly, making it better, in my opinion, in the book.
The book contains 27 engaging contemporary poems, an additional 18 Zen poems, and 1 piece of flash fiction that all work together in an amazing way to develop the main theme of investigating the rich knowledge of our past to find and gather new seeds of thought to sow and plant for future generations. The book also contains an article on contemporary poetry, and there is a final surprise bonus at the end of the book to spice up your life.

The back flap has some blurbs to demonstrate what other readers and authors have said about my work and poetry. It is so nice for me to read these kind and generous words from others and I have the deepest gratitude for their expressed sentiments.
The back also contains a short bio-sketch and a picture of me watching what the ants will do as they crawl back out of the poems carrying words to their nests.
