WARNING: FOUL LANGUAGE, EXTREME FRUSTRATION, MIGHT OFFEND.

I am not going to go on about this year, we all know what happened. So, yea, between February and completely freaking out I decided to informally investigate gaining full-time employment.

AND WHAT THE F****.

This is the first time in 16 years that I put myself out there. I went through a few processes to apply for a job and WTF. You post your job on LinkedIn, the link goes to another portal, which leads to another portal asking 400 questions, which includes adding your CV, blood type, eye color and then pushes you through to another form which then leads you to an automated response that states if you are not contacted in 14 days please consider yourself declined. Are you F****** kidding me??? I just spent an hour applying for your job!!

Even better, I applied for positions months ago that I have not even received a read-receipt, not even an automated response. And this is from a TOP TECH TO DO COMPANY who flaunts how relevant they are. You are never too important to reply. I can handle it, and I do not care, but that developer, that sh** hot developer, that just sent his CV, well now he just pi*** off to the Netherlands. THANK YOU!

I had the privilege of experiencing a couple of interview processes which were again VERY insightful. Managed to get through to a few stages with a company to then be told the position is on hold until April 2021……… really??? And now I know how it feels when on the receiving end when I tell candidates this and it sucks. Companies, THIS IS NOT ON! Either your budget is approved, or it is not. You do not waste people’s time or give them unexpected hope – geez man, there should be legal consequences for actions like this.

There was literally one company that blew my mind away, ONE (in the positive sense) - https://www.matchr.io/ - check them out – I have a feeling we will be hearing a lot more from them in the future.

At the end of this epic fail of a process, I realized there was a huge gap in the market – and I am taking it! 2021 under no circumstances is going to be any easier. In fact, we are in for one hell of a bumpy ride. The old recruitment model is done and dusted, well my logic says it is and this % charging is rubbish (next blog) so time for some real disruption ( I hate that word, but it sure sounds better than upsetting or unsettling.)

So for now, strategizing, planning, mentor meeting, much needed rest, and then...

Spot on.... willing to take a ton from you but offer no human relationship back - not a company I would want to be a part of anyway...

Everything you wrote is totally true. You actually wonder whether some of the recruitment firms actually exist as they continuously post jobs you qualify for but no " read response" or any other response is ever received.

Samantha the way you said it is exactly what is currently happening in the recruitment market , It s frustrating to say the least if you click apply for the position plus attach your CV and yes the dreaded pages and pages to add your own credentials again , just to be registered on a recruiting company URL. being in the ICT environment since 1990 probably makes me a dinosaur , but still capable to do the job at hand , but "you are way overqualified " or you are way to expensive , granted there is "lots "of IT jobs available but the pay is on minimum wages if it comes to that . or it doesn't have your exact skill needed , but hey somewhere something will crop up , lets take 2021 on the positive side

Your 1st paragraph is 100% spot on and the frustration is 100% real... I do not understand why I have to submit a CV and fill in your forms requesting detail that has nothing to do with the industry I am in.... I, too, am not fond of the word disruption... but this industry seriously needs it!

So well written!!! I am horrified at how antiquited the recruitment processes still are. I'm also job hunting currently and there is a serious disruption needed in that industry. The other response is, sorry we will not be proceeding with your application. No explanation, and when you ask for one — which you are fully entitled to - you never hear back from them. It is absolutely shocking. They need to catch a wake up.
