Warning: Beware of the hot mic ??
Welcome back to Pure Pulse
One of the most impactful changes I’ve made over the past few years is building a habit of daily reflection. I’ve also made it a point to set aside time for more in-depth reflection on specific areas of my business and personal life on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
A key reason I’ve adopted this practice is to counteract both negativity bias and recency bias.
Negativity bias refers to our brain's natural tendency to focus on negative information more intensely than positive. For our cave-dwelling ancestors, this trait was crucial for survival. But in our modern world, negativity bias leaves us dwelling too much on criticism, failures, or setbacks instead of recognising our successes.
Recency bias compounds this negativity by ensuring we remember recent events more vividly than those that happened earlier. This makes us all too quick to overlook the bigger picture, which is a quick way to forget just how far we’ve come and lose sight of our progress and achievements.
If this sounds familiar, I challenge you to take time out, grab a pen and paper, and reflect by asking yourself these questions:
Reflecting deeply will keep you focused on the progress you’ve made and provide clarity on where you want to go next.
I’d love to hear what you gain from this process.
