Organisations 'lack leadership' and are underprepared for Internet of Things boom, warns Gartner with some interesting outcome of a survey almost 500 IT and business leaders, the summery;
"Security and privacy are, unsurprisingly, top issues and industries dealing with intangibles were more concerned with security and privacy than those dealing with tangibles because many operate in very security-aware areas such as banking,"
"The real challenge of the IoT is less in making products 'smart' and more in understanding the business opportunities enabled by smart products and new ecosystems."
"Organisations need executives and staff to understand the potential of the IoT if they're going to invest in it," said Steve Kleynhans, research vice president at Gartner.
The statement made by Gartner in the heading is a bit to tough in my views while their are plenty of large cooperates and small and medium enterprises that are exploring the IoT. However I do support the 3 listed statements below and in our company we have gone trough a major leap in terms of technology deployments and the IoT Application software that we support going forward. Customer needs are not in the space of doing IoT pilots anymore but demand mature solutions that cover exactly the survey from Gartner is pin pointing. The common approach that works well for our focus markets in OEM, F&B, Oil&Gas and SmartCities is simple but very effective;
- Identifying and defining a focused business case
- Delivering the proof of concept for ROI based on OPEX reduction
- Enabling the customer to replicate the model across their entire operations
And in that approach all issues are covered that are pinned by Gardner, deployments of Proof of Concepts are done in terms of weeks instead of months and our customers are transforming their business processes smoothly AND safely.
