Warmup Your Linkedin Profile

Warmup Your Linkedin Profile

Linkedin done right is the most cost-effective way to grow your B2B business. As with any system, it's important to understand the rules and avoid being put in Linkedin Jail.

Warming up your Linkedin profile is the key to winning. You need to warm up your LinkedIn profile for the same reasons that a pitcher is put in the dugout to warm up before being put in the game. We want the best results for our time and effort. We want to create a targeted profile of the people we want to build our network around - decision makers in your industry that are your ideal customers.

500 or less connections

This is for people with 500 or fewer connections. I'll cover warming up your LinkedIn profile for 500 or more connections in an upcoming article. You are capped at no more than 50 connection requests on a free account and 70 to 90 per day on a premium sales navigator account. Linkedin is a little kinder with restrictions on paid accounts.

Step 1. If your connections are below 500, Your first goal in warming up your LinkedIn profile is to get to 500 connections. The easiest way to do this is to become a LION - LinkedIn open networker. You want to join a LION group like 500+ ★Connections Group★ LION (LI Open Networkers) https://www.dhirubhai.net/groups/4563873/. LIONS or open networkers won't say they don't know you when you send them a connection request. You don't want to make the same mistake I did. I accepted any LIONs requests when I first started out. You want a targeted profile of decision-makers that are connected to other decision-makers.

Step 2. You want to go into the member's area of the group in the top right. Click on show all. In the search bar, you want to enter "CEO OR PARTNER OR OWNER OR PRESIDENT" and hit enter. This will identify the decision-makers in the group that are LIONS. Unfortunately, you won't be able to tell head counts from the groups. If you want to target people with a specific headcount in a company, you'll need to use a sales navigator to do that. I'll cover that in another article.

3. You want to go through the headlines of each of the members of the group to find people that you would like to connect with. Be careful to not click on their names. This counts as a profile view. Linkedin will put you in Linkedin Jail for viewing too many profiles. Once you find someone you want to connect with, Send them a short message. Something like "I am new to Linkedin. I liked your profile. I would like to connect and learn from you." Once they respond, you can click on the connection button in the top right of the message box.

Warming Up Process

The warm-up process takes about 30 days to complete.

  • 1-5 days?– 10 connection requests per day. 20 messages a day to group members.
  • 5-10 days?– 20 connection requests per day. 40 messages to group members a day.
  • 15-20 days?– 30 connection requests per day. 60 messages to group members a day.
  • 20-25 days?– 50 connection requests per day. 100 messages to group members a day.

I'll cover some tips on increasing your connection rates in an upcoming article.
