A warm (virtual) welcome to our 2020 Verizon interns.

How Verizon is embracing the next normal through our virtual internship program.   

With businesses adopting work-from-home models and schools moving to remote-learning, we know that for many, adjusting to the next normal amid the COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t been easy. Although there have been many changes to the way we live and work, one thing that hasn’t changed is our commitment to investing in future leaders. 

So, we’re excited to take our 2020 summer internship program virtual! With these changes, please know that we are still committed to providing our interns with valuable real-world experiences. Through the use of technology and connectivity, we aim to make the experience highly enriching and fulfilling. 

What does this mean for incoming interns?  

As we shift our mindset and resources to adapt to the new ways of doing business, we’re excited to provide our incoming interns with the opportunity to continue their professional development journeys at Verizon.   

Beginning in June, 450+ students from across the country will join our team as Verizon interns, working on high-impact projects remotely. These exciting projects vary across the business, ranging from product development, artificial intelligence and machine learning, to engineering, user experience and data analytics. 

How will the virtual internship differ from working on-site in an office setting? 

Although this year’s group will not be physically present in a Verizon location, we promise to create a fun and collaborative experience. This summer, we’re encouraging all interns to take advantage of teleconferencing tools to help them establish a network of new connections and camaraderie among fellow interns and V Teamers. 

As part of their internship, they’ll be owning and participating in meaningful project work, as well as personal development opportunities, including structured learning, networking, and virtual volunteer activities. And, we want our interns to get to know all about Verizon, so we’re planning to have senior leaders from across our business host ‘Virtual Fireside Chats’ for an inside look into their teams.

We’re excited to have these bright minds be part of our history as the first Verizon Virtual Summer Internship Class of 2020. I am confident the next generation of leaders will emerge from this time even more resilient and prepared to build a brighter future. They are tomorrow’s innovators and visionaries whose discoveries will transform how we solve today’s challenges, and it’s our responsibility as business leaders to make sure they have the professional development they need to change the world.
