THE WAR OF THE WORLDS

With deference to H G Wells,

No one would have believed in the second decade of the 21st century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by malevolent intelligences who regarded this earth and it riches with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us.

Yet it finally came to pass that the orange faced alien and his minions who had infected the minds of so many for 4 years had at last been faced with the reality, that the disease of divisiveness and lies would no longer be tolerated.

To his surprise, he discovered that, like the invaders in another fictional novel, he and his supporters had been brought down not by the words of those that stood against him but by an onslaught of earthly pathogens.

His claim that it was not necessary to wear a mask, that injecting with disinfectant and the use of heat and light would cure proved at odds with his scientific advisors.

His contention that the nation had turned the corner and a vaccine would be available to all by the end of the year did not convince and the infections and deaths continued to rise.

And after all the slurs, the half-truths, claims that all was fake news and all his political and judicial devices had failed, his chance of a second term evaporated.

He had been defeated, not by his handling of the economy or his promise that the nation would be great again, again but by the humblest things that God, in his wisdom, has put upon this earth.

A virus of the covid type.

Let the remnants of this alien experience be wiped clean. The divisions be healed, the respect of this nation be reinstated and the people breath once again the invigorating air of true Democracy.
