The War in Ukraine - Why? A seminar

Not a newscast goes by these days without horrific details showing what Russia is doing to it’s neighbour.

Ukrainians, people like us are suffering just as our parents and grandparents did during WWII. We now have another war in the western hemisphere.

With roots in Poland, and having two cousins with business interests there, I was motivated to convene this seminar at 5pm on Tuesday 22nd March, promoted towards members of my MBA alumni.?

The first speaker will be Alex Sawka, MBA CPA BA Dip Ed. Of Ukrainian and Russian heritage, he has spent most of his working life conducting business in Ukraine, Russia, and London. He will talk about his experiences, and the historic and ethnic landscape of modern Ukraine.

Dr. Naoise McDonagh is a Lecturer at the Institute for International Trade, University of Adelaide, and researches international political economy. He has?family relations living in Poland, and is deeply concerned over the brutal invasion of Ukraine and destruction of European peace. His research focuses on how geopolitics, security, moral values, and international economics interact to drive trade relations between nations, including economic sanctions during conflict. He has published research articles on the nature and consequences of growing economic competition between democracies and authoritarian states. In his presentation he will discuss the breath and effectiveness of Western sanctions applied against Russia, their likely effects globally, and what they mean for future relations between Russian and the EU.

There will be an opportunity for a Q&A.

At the conclusion, delegates can retire to the bar and club lounge to purchase refreshments and continue discussions on the issues.

Though no charge is required for participation, a facility will be made through the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Associations, for you to donate towards refugee needs.
