War, Medicine, and AI: Help to Save Lives in Ukraine

Friends, today I want to share a story that’s been weighing heavily on my heart.
3925 days Ukrainians have been fighting on the side of light. 1000 days since the world found out about this. 1000 days of fear, and uncertainty, but also incredible resilience. That’s how long it’s been since russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. And that’s how long our team at BeKey has been tirelessly working on a project that became our way of fighting back — Doctors4UA.
I remember how it all started. We sat there, stunned by the news, feeling helpless. But then came the realization: we could and should do something using our knowledge and expertise in digital health. That’s how Doctors4UA was born — a platform connecting Ukrainian doctors and patients, wherever they might be.
Those first days were crazy. Doctors, many of whom had lost their homes, signed up as volunteers. Patients, scared and confused, sought help. We worked around the clock, trying to make the platform as user-friendly and reliable as possible.
And you know what? It worked. Since then, 10,000 patients have been registered on the platform, and more than 2,000 consultations have been conducted. Over 400 doctors have joined us. Each number represents someone’s health, peace of mind, and sometimes even life.
What started as a simple video call platform has grown into something much more comprehensive. Doctors4UA now offers a range of features that make healthcare more accessible and efficient:
???? Flexible communication options: video, audio, or text chat
???? Urgent consultation requests for immediate care
???? Scheduling system for both online and offline appointments
???? Digital prescriptions and medical requisitions
???? Integration with medical devices and a medical history tracker
It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come! Just last week, we launched a new feature — ambient listening technology. Now, AI helps create structured summaries of consultations, so doctors can focus on what matters most — their patients. This keeps us at the vanguard of telemedicine, providing modern services that meet the evolving needs of both doctors and patients.
But we’re facing a new reality. Many of our volunteer doctors, who dropped everything at the start of the war to help, now need to return to their regular lives. They have families to feed and bills to pay. And while their desire to help hasn’t diminished, reality is setting in. At the same time, the need for our platform isn’t going away. New patients register every day. The war is still ongoing, and medical facilities are being bombed constantly, decreasing the possibility of seeing a doctor in person, so access to medical care remains a critical issue for many Ukrainians.?
This is where we need your help. We’re seeking sponsors, NGOs, grant providers, funds, or private donors who can help us provide modest compensation to our dedicated doctors. Here’s our proposal:
?? We aim to offer a minimal consultation fee of about $10 per session.
?? BeKey continues to fully sponsor the platform development, servers, and maintenance.
?? 100% of the funds raised will go directly to the doctors after successful consultations, ensuring complete transparency.
How you can help:
?? If you know of any organizations, grants, or individuals who might be interested in supporting this cause, please introduce us.
?? Share this post with your network. The wider we cast our net, the more likely we are to find support.
?? If you have experience in securing funding for humanitarian projects, we’d love to hear your insights.
Every idea, contact, or even repost from you could be what helps thousands of Ukrainians receive the medical care they need. Let’s show together that the global community stands shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine, not just in words, but in concrete actions.?
Leave a comment, send me a message, or simply share this post. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Have you considered offering the option for individuals to purchase consultations for Ukrainians by donating the consultation fee? In recent years, it's become increasingly popular to make donations in someone's name in lieu of giving gifts, so could be relevant as the holidays approach. The low price point ($10 per consultation fee) also makes this a good potential fit for a recurring donation, e.g. if someone wants to give $10 or $20 per month to cover one or two consultations. Obviously it would be more attractive if you can get a large donation from a single entity, but this might be a useful way to supplement that or to tide you over while you work on securing a grant.
