Want to understand texts better?

Want to understand texts better?

I think you are familiar with such a problem, the page is already read, but you have no clue.

But what to expect from children who can't imagine something new for them? What to expect from students who read technical literature about some hard technical stuff?

Studies show that children reproduce on average 25% of the text before the illustrations are shown, and 40-45% after the illustrations are shown. Visuals in books make it easier and faster for children to make associative and semantic connections between sound (reading aloud), meaning, and image.?

One of the objectives of the study was to determine the effect of book illustrations on the level of perception and comprehension of fictional texts by children aged 4-5. In accordance with the methodology of G.A. Uruntaeva and Y.A. Afonkina, the study showed that before the illustrations were shown, children reproduced the text by an average of 25%, and after the illustrations were shown, the average indicator increased to 40-45%.

The book illustration helped 4-5-year-old children to better perceive the meaning of the work and also increased their emotional response to the content of the book.

Here is Taras Yevich, the founder of the AllBook project. Probably Taras has the answer on how to solve this problem. He's already had interest from Leonardo.ai, PocketBook and other giants to his idea, so what it's all about...

A few words about Taras, he is a marketer with more than 15 years of experience, who has worked with top Belarusian and world brands such as Lay's, Purina and others. But this time he is a founder for the first time.?

Today, he has a global vision of how to make reading a tradition for children and how to make reading and understanding text easier for adults with the help of visualization.

The key feature came to Taras while reading to his child before bedtime. Taras and his wife noticed that if the book contains cool pictures, the child listens to the story with concentration and understands sentences and individual words faster.?

Some time later, Taras expanded the application of his idea. He realized that the same was true for students and technical texts for students and specialists.

Let's dive in and learn more about the features of the app. The app is designed to help people, especially children, better engage with book texts. These features are expected to be:

  • Instant creation of images and illustrations;
  • Creation of audiobook versions;
  • The ability to create your own fairy tales and stories;
  • Role-playing reading with the help of AI.

These features are implemented using various neural networks, all of which are ready to offer their capabilities. The closest competitor is NaturalReader, the application that converts text to speech in multiple languages (with over a million installs).?

I mentioned "features are assumed" because the project is only at the MVP stage.?

By the way, Taras is currently looking for an investor/co-investor (check the presentation). His sales skills are excellent (and I will prove it now), but the technical side is poor. He has no experience with IT projects before.

"I am far from the IT sphere and therefore I will be sincerely glad for any help, advice or participation. I believe that AllBook will be in demand and useful".

*MVP will be completed in the next few months. For now, the project is being developed with the founder's own funds.

Being at the stage of just an idea, Taras was able to get support and interest from such players as PocketBook (a large manufacturer of e-books), was communicating with the top of the Leonardo.ai team. Anyone who has worked on their own project knows what role business development plays in the development of a project. I was impressed by Taras' agility and his ability to find the right contacts and negotiate on his own!

Working with Leonardo.ai or similar services could especially help talented authors who can't afford illustrations.?

Talking to Pocketbook led to the idea of creating a mobile app, as developing your own device is an expensive project.

How the project will generate revenue

The monetization model will be a combination of several approaches. Taras mentioned that he hates in-app advertising.?

B2C - Paid monthly subscription:

  • Free version: Only image generation is available, limited to 10 images per week. Free trial period: 1 calendar week.
  • Paid "All" subscription: Provides access to one generation feature with unlimited use within the subscription period. Available as a monthly or annual plan.
  • All+ Paid Subscription: Provides unlimited access to all features.
  • Online Bookstore: Includes books from publishers and online book markets.

B2B:

  • The book showcases within the mobile app.
  • App branding opportunities.

One of the problems the team faces:

One of the funny things that Taras' team encountered during the work: there were problems with character generation, as towards the end of the book the image moves far away from the initial version, because the description of the character goes only at the beginning of the book, instead of being repeated every time he is mentioned.

It's great that you made it to the end of my article.

If you are interested in this project, Taras is open to meet new people who are interested in working on such a project!

I decided to tell more about Taras' idea because I like the way he wants to influence the world. I see the potential of investing our time and efforts to make our children's lives better, I like the way Taras wants to make it easier for people to study and understand the material. The more such ideas are realized, the better world we will see around us.
