Want to Transform Your Community?

A worldview is a collection of attitudes, values, stories, and expectations about the world around us, which informs our every thought and action. Something that informs every thought and action is pretty powerful and important. The foundation on which our worldview is built is our values. If you value family, for example, you’ll be more understanding when an employee or co-worker is out because their spouse or child is sick, even if it means more work for you. Our worldview and our values go hand-in-hand. Here at SOS, we love our values and believe that, when put into action, they have the power to transform lives. These values are: See. Engage. Belong. Build. What do our values have to do with you? I’m glad you asked because you adopting these values can not only change your life but can transform your community.

See – You will not see what you are not looking for. Who around you is unseen? What areas of your community are underdeveloped? If you don’t know, start googling. What’s your homeless population? Food insecurity rate? How many children are in foster care in your community? You cannot secure children and develop communities without getting outside of your routine and choosing to see what is often hiding in plain sight.

Engage – awareness + action. If seeing is the first step, engaging must quickly follow. Engaging can be uncomfortable. It requires us to give of ourselves and actively challenge and shape our own worldview. Without engagement, nothing changes. A great place to start in engaging is to ask, “What is in my hand that could be used to help others?”

Belong -Children belong in safe communities and you belong in building them. We all have a role to play and your role might surprise you! Not only do you belong, but you are crucial in developing your community and communities around the world! When we actively work to create a sense of belonging for others, we find ourselves belonging as well.

Build – together we can build developed communities and secure at-risk children! When you see, engage, and belong, building is inevitable. Building from a place of belonging means we are a part of creating something so much bigger than ourselves because we don’t do it alone.

Our worldviews and values have the power to change our lives and the lives of those around us. What areas do you need to put your values into practice? The world will be a better place if you do.
