Want to Take 2-Weeks Off…Guilt-Free? Here’s how…

Have you ever wanted to take a 2-week vacation completely unplugged and off the grid without your property falling apart, but can’t overcome the fear of losing your job because you’re not there to fight the fires only you know how to fight?

If so, you aren’t alone.

As a fellow Property Manager since the mid-80s, I’ve faced the non-stop barrage of tenant complaints and non-stop fire-fighting (priorities, due dates, and deadlines).?

But I love my “away time.” Leaving everything behind for a few weeks is uber-appealing. But then reality sets in.

Believe me, I know just how easy it is to get consumed by the workload, let alone try to get ahead. Who’s got time for a vacation?

I’ve spent years trying to work nights and weekends so someday I wouldn’t have to work nights and weekends!

For years “someday” never came.

So 50-60 hour work weeks became the norm. I even tried rationalizing that I actually liked working that much. I finally knew what it was like to join the ranks of the “workaholic.”

But then my family obligations haunted this addiction. I wanted my kids to have traditions and memories created during vacations together. How could I create those traditions without being present for them?

I had to figure it out.

I enrolled in every productivity course and tried every efficiency hack under the sun, but I always ended right back behind the 8-ball once again.

I’d come to work with a perfect plan to reach some high-value goals only to have the entire plan derailed by someone else’s agenda.

The extra effort seemed futile.?

If my attempts to get ahead of the game landed me right back at the starting line, how could I even think of taking a long weekend, let alone a 2-week vacation?

The problem with taking 2-weeks off is…?

A) Most Property Managers won’t create a bullet-proof plan that accounts for every eventuality…before they occur, AND

B) Most Property Managers fear the guilt and unease about the piles of work that await their return.?

Makes sense, right?

It takes time to set things up so your property can run itself in your absence.

Plus, it’s really difficult to envision unforeseen issues and implement “Plan B” before they arise. Just thinking about the myriad of issues that can arise is dizzying!

I get it. It’s hard letting go of tasks you can do far better than anyone else.

Of course, you want to stay “in the know” on all aspects of your property so issues can be handled in a way only you can handle them.

Of course, it’s easier to stay plugged in and take client calls while away from the property while justifying your absence from your family.

Of course, it’s natural to justify managing all aspects of your property while you are away for fear of losing your job.

And of course, it’s easier to answer questions as they arise because you haven’t effectively delegated or haven’t spent the time training your team on how to handle things in your absence.

Luckily, I’ve discovered the solution to this problem...

To take a 2-week, guilt-free vacation without losing your mind worrying about everything that could go wrong in your absence, you need to create a “Plan B” which includes three key ingredients:

  • Fulfillment: Learning exactly what you love about your job and how to do more of it
  • Freedom: Delegating exactly what you don’t love (but others do) and empowering them to do it
  • Finances: Setting your property on auto-pilot so you have the time to focus on higher-value projects or new income opportunities

Most Property Managers excel in their careers by taking on challenges. They’d triage the situation, assemble the right resources, and proudly explain their solutions to their clients.?

They did have bragging rights as they did it all themselves. Sounds good on paper.

The problem with many Property Managers is they simply can’t let go of their hands-on methods. Simply put: they aren’t good delegators.

The good news is: if you’re like most Property Managers, you are a good planner. That’s where a good “Plan B” comes in.?

Yet, you also understand that creating a solid “Plan B” can be daunting so you will have to eat the elephant one bite at a time.

The first “bite” (for fulfillment) is to recognize or re-discover exactly what you love about yourself and your career. This single discovery of your Highest Values sets the stage for exceptional planning.

When you see what you love and what you don’t, it’s easier to start delegating, which thereby creates freedom. That’s the second “bite.”

Your teammates want advancement. They want to take on new challenges so they can prove their own value. Let them show you how they can shine so you can be free to fulfill your Highest Values.

As for the final “bite,” by focusing on fulfillment and freedom, you now have more margin to create new financial opportunities, share your experiences with fellow Property Managers, or pursue a new career path that leads to higher compensation.?

Now obviously, that’s easier said than done, right?

You can’t normally just start delegating and empowering your team without carving away time to strategize on all the eventualities contemplated in your “Plan B” while simultaneously training your team to perform at higher levels.

That’s why I’ve created The UP Method (in recognition of your Unlimited Potential), which incorporates the power of an entirely new Values~Driven Service Model that makes this whole process manageable.

It’s designed specifically for Property Managers who reluctantly accept the non-stop barrage of demands and are looking for a change.

It’s for those who want to redesign their careers by having their properties manage themselves, leveraging their teams and service providers, and delivering exceptional service in the process.?

It’s intended for those who are thirsting for ways to rise up above the crowd, serve at higher levels, and create a self-performing platform so they can take that 2-week, guilt-free vacation they so desperately deserve.

Is that you?

Even if a 2-week vacation isn’t your goal, think of what it would be like to take a 2-week break from your properties. Seen another way, what if you actually had to take 2-weeks off? Could you?

If you like the idea of creating a platform that runs by itself and creates space for you to do more of what you love, then let’s hop on a quick phone call together to see if The UP Method is right for you.

Just book a time to chat that works for you: https://calendly.com/gip-erskine/45-minute-session

During that call, we’ll look at how you could create and implement your own “Plan B” so you can reclaim your upward trajectory in service to your industry and what your best next steps would be if you decide to pursue this strategy.

To your ascension UP,
