Want to swear better in English?
Hey all you English language nerds out there!
Netflix just dropped “The History of Swear Words” and it’s the most entertaining English class you’ll EVER attend.
This comedic docu-series spends an entire episode on each of the most common American English expletives, diving deep into their origins. They unpack the history of English swear words by interviewing celebrities, who reflect on their favorites in humorous interview clips.
And the best part of all -you get to hear a lot of those swear words in context! Learning in context helps to solidify vocabulary in your long term memory. This ‘profoundly profane’ series will give you a chance to hear English expletives words spoken in various accents, which is a great way to expand your listening comprehension skills!
Nicholas Cage, who narrates this series dressed as an old-timey literature professor, will have you laughing or cringing (perhaps even both!) as you master the nuance of how to cuss in English.
It’s funny, it’s educational, and it’s practically useful- the next time you want to quit your job dramatically, or tell a lively story, you’ll be ready with an arsenal of profanity to meet any situation.
What do you think you could get out of watching this program?
