If you're an international student dreaming of pursuing a degree in Germany, you will most likely need a German student visa. And one key part of that process is the Blocked Account.
?? Why is it important? Without the Blocked Account, your visa application could get rejected, and that could stop you from achieving your academic goals in Germany.
?? Do You Need a Blocked Account?
Students fall into three categories based on their country:
1?? EU Member States & Select Countries Students from the EU, Norway, Iceland, or Switzerland do not need a visa or Blocked Account. ????
2?? Countries like Australia, Canada, Japan, USA, and UK You can enter without a visa, but you'll need to apply for a residence permit within 90 days, which may require a Blocked Account. ??
3?? All Other Countries If you're from elsewhere, you'll need both a visa and a Blocked Account for your visa application.
?? What Is a Blocked Account?
A Blocked Account (Sperrkonto) proves you have enough funds to support yourself while studying in Germany. This account ensures you can cover your living expenses for at least 12 months without relying on government assistance.
?? For international students, this is a key requirement for obtaining a German visa.
