Want To Standout..! Beautify your Profile with LinkedIn's New Interface

Thought their are number of changes to Linkedin’s new interface, in this article we will talk about the changes that have impacts on our profile view. Previously you could reorder your profile but unfortunately, the profile section can no longer be reordered. We will discuss and tips will be provided for each section. The following order will be followed as default:

·     Summary

·     Highlights (new)

·     Posts & Activity (new)

·     Experience & Education

·     Skills & Endorsements

·     Recommendations

·     Accomplishments

·     Influencers and companies you're Following. (Last section, no changes)

1)  Summary:

You have to convince the viewer to learn more about you by providing concise and appropriate information within two lines. LinkedIn will only show the first two lines in the summary, also no links or media files can be seen unless the viewer press see more.

Tip: Write two lines summarising your roles and speciality. Look at my profile, how I did it.

2)  Highlights (new):

Lets you know how you are connected with the profile and what’s common between both of you. Previously the information was scattered but now its simple and at one point.

3) Careful about your Posts and Activities:

Your current post and three recent activates will be available on your profile.

Tip: If you are looking for specific project be cautious that your activities doesn’t contradict with the project you are searching for.

4)  Experience Section:

Only the current role is expanded by default. Previous job experiences are minimized and visitor have to click for each role to expand and show details.

Tip: Add as much details in current role as possible but be concise and only put valuable information. Upload media files to give it a better look. See picture below.

  5)   Featured Skills & Endorsements

Only three skills will be displayed to the viewer unless he/she clicks for details. Previously ten skills were displayed.

Tip: You should reorder skills that are important as per the role you are searching for.

6) Accomplishments

Everything from Certifications, Courses, Honors and Awards, Languages, Patents, Projects, Publications, Test Scores, and Organizations are now covered in accomplishment. They are situated in the bottom, therefore its likely that most wont even see this part.

Tip: If some of these accomplishments are important to your profile, try to highlight them in upper sections of your profile.

7) Contact Information:

The contact information is shifted to the right sidebar of the profile. The visitor needs to expand in order to get the information.

The website will show full URL instead of just Company Website previously.

Tip: Check your links if they look good and are they working.

Additional Tips:

  • Edit your profile link with personal names etc, so it looks beautiful on CV etc.
  • You can have profile in multiple languages, but need to put information by yourself.
  • Using Keywords in different parts of your profile will help you in optimising your profile on these keywords.
  • Ask for recommendations from your precious works and projects.

Good News:

LinkedIn is offereing free trials of Premium Accounts, so that you can taste the flaovor and choose the best type of account that meets your needs.

Updates:

Its likely that LinkedIn will keep pushing changes in the upcoming months as per members feedback and their teams learning. I will keep updating the post for the changes made in upcoming periods. Please note you can also update any other new changes or corrections in the comments section. Happy Beautify networking!

No more worries for finding the right format for your C.V/resume. LinkedIn now offers downloading a PDF format of your profile. While using it, make sure its updated and overall formatting is fine. Also adjust the content as per job requirement, if required.
