Hi?from Vera,
If you had just one wish about your business English, what would that be?
Let me guess:?Speaking like a native speaker!
Is that so? Do you feel your level is decent, but you?can't speak naturally and confidently??
I also assume (prove me wrong) that you feel the reason for that is that?you don't speak English like a Brit.
You often listen to them speak fluently and get jealous:?"What if I could speak English like them? That'd be fantastic!"
Wait a minute. Humans often rely on?assumptions?that, most of the time, prove wrong.
And that is definitely a?false assumption. Before breaking the myth about native English speakers, let me point out this first huge?discrepancy:
Speaking English?is something different from?communicating in English,?let alone doing that?effectively.
And?Brits don't have an advantage?on that over you; trust me on that. Read on to find out why!
It's not about the Brits; it's about you!
Native speakers (not only in English but any other language in the world) are?not more skilled, equipped, or qualified?to speak and communicate in English with confidence. Period.
- Natives don't speak English perfectly.?There is no perfection whatsoever. Think of yourself. Do you speak your native language perfectly all the time? Probably not.
- Natives do make mistakes.?Sometimes they may make more mistakes than you do. Yet, they can sometimes communicate in English naturally.
- Communication is much more than knowing the grammar rules, having a rich vocabulary, or even having the words flowing out of your mouth effortlessly. Effective communication concerns other skills with which native speakers don't have any edge.
