Want to sleep better? There is an easy hack to it!

I was surprised to see the number of hands that went up, when I asked the audience: How many of you find it difficult to sleep at night?

This was last week at a workshop that I was conducting, at a pharma MNC. Struggling to sleep despite a tiring day of work is a challenge many of us face today. The mind keeps playing events of the day, future plans, past situations where we wanted to win an argument or what we could have done or said to make things better.

Proper sleep is a very important pillar of health and if compromised for a long time, can make a person prone to a lot of serious health issues.

I went through a very similar phase of sleep deprivation for around 6 months and I really started hating bedtime. Whenever I went to sleep it would take me at-least 30-40 minutes for me to completely fall asleep. I always thought, should I utilize this time to do something more productive, rather than wasting time lying down for so long and not getting sleep.

I was fortunate to have yoga by my side and I started reading about practices in Yoga which help with sleep. Many resources talk about meditating before going to bed, but when I am so tired end of the day, even the word meditation feels like a rock on my head.

So, the other day I took these young friends through a simple guided approach, breath awareness, some tricks and shortcuts which will help them sleep better.

As we completed the session, the group walked up to me with a smile on their faces and I one of them said "I have not felt this relaxed in a long time". Just what makes my day when I juggle between work and teaching yoga.
