Want to own your own ASG TMON source code and support it?
I didn’t think so. But, if your company is depending upon ASG TMON for components of your mainframe monitoring and management system that scenario could be in your future.
Think about it or better yet perhaps ask your vendor management team to give you an updated vendor viability risk assessment. Although rarely exercised, there is a reason why companies have source code release assurances in their vendor contracts.
About every two weeks a customer is replacing ASG’s TMON, IBM’s Omegamon or CA’s Sysview with BMC’s MainView and that rate is accelerating as executives seek to reduce risk and improve operations
The question is, why are so many customers moving to MainView? MainView can help your organization:
- Lower overhead during the rolling 4HR peak (reduces MLC charges)
- Benefit from more monitor processing using lower cost ZIIP engines
- Save MIPS by exploiting single data collectors (pay data collection taxes only once)
- Improve time to detect and diagnose problems and performance issues
BMC is hosting a one-day briefing in Houston on September 17th for companies interested in hearing from MainView product experts and in meeting with other clients who are switching monitors and a few that have already switched to BMC MainView.
If you are interested in learning more about the briefing please send me an email. Hurry, space is limited.
Or, check out our MainView website for more information.

9 年I have to agree with David Downing, this type of article sets a dangerous precedent. The lack of facts are glaringly obvious!

9 年I totally agree Chris. We are finding that our most recent customers are looking for a trusted vendor that provides innovation and quality automation with the ability to reduce MSU consumption and thus MLC. The mainframe will continue to be strategically relevant indeed

9 年Hi John, I believe that mainframe customers are seeking to partner with innovative vendors and re-thinking past decisions based on a new set of requirements and facts. In a somewhat similar way, Compuware won back two customers last week. Both had buyers remorse from the loss of productivity in trying to leverage competitive tools and, after the "fire sale" was closed, both were "unpleasantly surprised" by having to add "list priced products" to fill holes left when they stopped using the Compuware tools. In the end, their total cost went up, the productivity went down and the vendor demonstrated no will or desire to innovate. Think they got a good deal? The mainframe will be strategically relevant to IT for decades to come and customers should be investing with that thought clearly in mind. Cheap, inferior products from vendors at risk of surviving or with no will or desire to innovate should not be part of the mix on such a mission critical platform. Regards, Chris

9 年You've hit a number of key and interesting points !
Great point Paul, thanks. Certainly the new integration between MainView and Compuware Strobe is a great way to reduce MTTR. Clients can use MainView's new, fully automated Loop Check to detect performance anomalies and initiate a Strobe data collection. MainView can then automatically handle the looping application and send a notification that a problem was detected and data was collected by Strobe.
