Think about a presentation you’ve heard in which the speaker shared a brilliant insight, an a-ha moment. Every person in the room or on-camera knew this was terrific wisdom.
Did you employ that great insight into your life?
Was this new perspective so powerful you ran out and used it?
Most of the time in answer to this question is “no.”
Why?
Because in the majority of cases, speakers fail to add one unique ingredient to make their insight beneficial to you…
One action step.
More often than not speakers don’t give you specific suggestions on what to do with their wisdom.
On the other end of the spectrum, some give you many options.
Neither of these is helpful.
With no direction, you’re unlikely to take action because you don’t know where to start.
With too many choices, you have the same problem — which one is your best option?

One Suggestion is All it Takes

If your purpose for speaking is to help others, make it easy for them to improve their lives. Give them one specific choice and you increase the odds you’ll have a lasting impact on them.
