Better Employees=Better Business! Learn How to Find, and Keep, More of the Right Employees

Have you ever set out on a walk or a hike and thought you knew where you were going–only to find out you didn’t? You ended up somewhere different than you expected–or lost.?

That’s what happened years ago when our family went on a hike in the North Georgia mountains. The trail was marked–yellow spray paint on the trees that were to guide us. My husband told the kids, “Just follow me. I will get us where we want to be.”?

This was pre-cell phone and Wi-Fi, and we were in the mountains. I began praying hard, hoping a ranger would find us. My husband is really great at a lot of things, but his geospatial skills are lacking.?

The four of us shared our observations about what we should do and managed to get back to the car.?

I wonder if that’s how our NextGen–even C-suite execs–feel when they think about their future.?

MentorLoft is hosting a panel in January where we will explore issues C-suite execs and NextGen are struggling with right now. Issues such as how to:

??- Grow your talent and build career paths

??- Win with recruiting and retention

??- Build on what others like you have learned

I promise this will be a great use of your time. We are nailing down the details now.?

This is my “thank you” to you in appreciation of how you’ve helped me grow.?

P.S.?If you think the panel is a waste of your time, take a look at the latest data on retention costs.

McKinsey: The top reason employees leave is a lack of career development opportunities and room for career growth – 41%.

Gallup?has more data, including this: Replacing a full-time employee can cost anywhere between half to two times the amount of that employee’s annual salary. (I know you’ve heard that before, but it is always worth repeating.)

Emotional Intelligence: Why it can matter more than IQ

From the publisher:

"Drawing on groundbreaking brain and behavioral research, author Daniel Goleman shows the factors at work when people of high IQ flounder and those of modest IQ do surprisingly well. These factors, which include self-awareness, self-discipline, and empathy, add up to a different way of being smart—and they aren’t fixed at birth. Although shaped by childhood experiences, emotional intelligence can be nurtured and strengthened throughout our adulthood—with immediate benefits to our health, our relationships, and our work."
