Want Help with Branding? Talk To A Recruiter and Here's Why
There is always so much talk about branding these days. Awareness of branding has grown, it's no longer just for companies with a large marketing team and for a good reason.
Every time you show up, you leave a piece of your brand behind. Even if you are part of a large organisation, you will leave a part of branding behind that could reflect on that company. Hence the reason some companies have strict policies behind social media use. Something I really didn't understand a few years ago. I went along with it of course but didn't fully understand at all.
Now I do...
I am not going to go all in on branding in this newsletter. I am going to look at how a recruiter might be useful to talk to when it comes to branding in the hiring process. After all, we are the people in the middle.
As much as I fight against the traditional selling role as a recruiter, the truth is that as a recruiter we have to sell a product to 2 groups of people before we make a 'sale'.
Let's say you are looking to buy a new phone. You probably already know you are either going to pick a Samsung or an Apple product, you just have to decide which one. You have been presold by the brand.
Samsung or Apple only has to appeal to you as a customer and the hard work is already done.
If only recruiting was like this...

To attract a candidate to a role, we have to sell that role to them. For a client to want to interview a candidate there can often be an element of selling that candidate to them. When either party has less brand to them, the more the selling aspect kicks in.
Recruiters work all day looking at markets, who is hiring, the roles they are hiring for, salary ranges etc. What candidates are available, skill sets, etc.
Now I'm not saying that recruiters are branding experts but we do have our finger on the pulse.
If you are a company that is struggling to attract the talent that you want, I bet that a conversation with a recruiter can reveal something missing or wrong with your attraction strategy.
If you are a candidate struggling to find a new role, I will bet a recruiter can point out something that you are missing that companies are looking for.
I am not saying this will give you the result you are looking for but it will take you a step closer to your goals.

2 年Great article Greg Ward Love how you broke things down regarding the fact that Recruiters have to satisfy 2 lots of customers in effect. The client who wants to fill a role and the Job Candidate who wants the role.
